^there are several screenshots on ISTNC's site, lots of different angle shots. but no viewing angle shots. It doesn't seem that Azalia is supported. But like you.. I was almost dead set on a laptop until this one came out

Man I was so ready to buy the Z71V, then came the KN-1..and now the HW1. Guess I'm in for a wait

Any rough price estimates for the HW1?

No pricing yet on the new models, probably be late June before we hear.
We should be receiving a seed unit soon ( initial release ) then we'll get a better idea of this new model. Also, we have a Compal DL70 coming, but from what I hear its a rather ugly unit.
We'll keep you posted

Any idea if the HW1 will be released toward the beginning or end of august? Also do you know if it will have one of the newer "glossy screens" or if it will be the standard type?

Powernotebooks.com says that the Quanta KN1-PM called PowerPro G 3:8 has "Intel Azalia AC ’97 Stereo Sound with 5.1/7.1 Channel High Definition Audio"

I thought AC 97 and Azalia were two different forms of intergrated sound. It's weird to me that it has both. Also, powernotebooks is the only site I've seen with this notebook that says it has Azalia sound. I'm so confused.

The KN1-PM notebook has AC97 ( 16 bit ) Stereo sound, high definition audio featuring 5.1/7.1 channel surround sound, two integrated stereo speakers

Because you can not remap the jacks on the KN1-PM, it is not considered Azalia sound. The KN1-PM does not have the SPDIF jack

With regards to a release date, that always remains a mystery. If they tell me beginning of August, I would automatically consider it to be end August.
As far as the LCD, at this time I am unsure, I will email my rep to see if he can provide better detail of the LCD used in this model. As soon as I am made aware of this, I will pass along the info

Okay, so the quanta doesn't have the SPDIF jack, but would the sound quality be as good as azalia? Meaning if I use the headphone jack would the sound be as good as a headphone jack through the z71v?

Btw, thanks so much rick for answering all our questions

to ISTNC,

how accurate is the battery claims for the Quanta.. I think battery life will be the deal breaker in trying to decide between the Asus and Quanta.

The battery life is accurate, yet misleading ( as all ODM's )
Battery life is based on turning the unit on and walking away until the battery life has been depleted.
Our first test using the system with wireless running and Internet useage got us 3hr40min

Actually, the keyboard that comes with this unit is better than most keyboards I have seen in notebooks. The keyboard seats nicely inside the unit ( unlike the Z71V )
The casing used with the Quanta is of plastic construction

KN1-PM appearance

It looks similar to a Compaq Presario that I saw at CompUSA today.

I wonder if Quanta is the ODM for Presario.

I think earlier in this thread, Rick said that Quanta does ODM for Teir 1 companies (Dell/HP/Compaq), so maybe the Presario was a quanta notebook.

Are there any other details to the HW1 at this time other than the fact that it's WSXGA?

SATA support, glossy screen, perhaps?

What we do know at this time is WSXGA, SATA support as well as DDR2 support. Nothing mentioned regarding glossy screen. From what I have been told, the MW1 and HW1 are identical except for screen size. We are expecting a pre-release unit sometime around mid June. As soon as we receive the unit we'll give it a once over and let you know the results.
For those of you wondering about the KN1-PM, I would give it a 8.5 out of 10 rating. Point deductions came from no WSXGA and no SATA support, other than that, it is really a great unit.
