Wow, when I looked at topic title I was going to post and ask for pics of the damage... thanks for being ahead of the game!
I had the exact same thought!!!

You can probably sell some of the remains of the Acer on ebay to buy the new laptop (if they are in tact).

Since it starts up you can salvage your data off it

Fixing it though doesnt look good

Yeah, if you could find the parts it probably wouldn't be worth it. How old was the laptop?

ok so ive been looking around and so far my options are:

Asus W3v

Pros
  • Bluetooth
  • nicer screen

Cons
  • Im alittle worried about the graphics card not being up to par although it may still beat the ATI Radeon 9600 in the acer i had.
  • smaller HD

Asus Z71v
Pros
  • Great graphics card
  • faster Processor available

Cons
  • No Bluetooth
  • alittle worried about the very high resolution/small text (i have bad eyes as it is) would it be just as crisp setting it at say 1280x800?

Sager 3880V

Pros
  • Best graphics card
  • integrated web cam

Cons
  • no bluetooth(may be able to add in)
  • smaller HD
  • not a fan of the battery in the back(lifts notebook off of table)

will update the list as i find more

Let me just say that there is a very small difference between the 6600go and the X700, I wouldn't look at that as a deciding factor for the next purchase both will give you about the same performance, I see that he Z71V is the only one that you didn't list "Smaller HDD" the 100 GB 5400 RPM HDD in the Z71V will give you good performance and good storage, and about the systems without bluetooth. I think you can get a USB bluetooth reciever

I like it alot, this is actually my second one because my first one had TERRIBLE light leakage so I returned it and re-ordered, the new screen I have owns , I really like the 6800 Go it is very strong.

9300
Pros
6800go, better than the 6600go/X700
17" WUXGA Screen can be beautiful
Good sound
6 USB 2.0 Ports!!!
SD Card Slot (good for my Dell Axim)
Cons
17" WUXGA can be bad
Dell doesn't guarantee the RPM speed with their HDDs other than the 7200 drives, so if you order a 80 GB drive you could get a 5400 RPM HDD or a 4200 RPM HDD

As for the size I was shocked when I first saw it, but now I quickly grew very accustomed to it

I guess if I had to sum up my 9300 experience the simplest way to say it is

"If I could time travel back 2 months ago and do it all over again, I would"

just bad reliability problems...crashed hard drives, systems shipping with viruses, and unknowledgable tech support...this was over the past years with different systems(notebooks and laptops)

15.5"x11.25"x1.6"

http://notebookforums.com/showthread...6000+9300+700m

that link compares the 9300, 6000, and the 700m the reason why that is important is because the 6000 is pretty much the EXACT same size as the Z71V

thanks for the link...the 6000 is around the size im looking for....out of curiosity how much do u think it would be to fix the acer
post #38 of 40
I think the Gateway M680XL would be a great choice. Has a brilliant 17" screen and ATI x700 w/128 graphics.

I honestly have noclue how much it would cost.

You'd be lucky to find the parts, but if you did it probably wouldn't be worth it.
