i'm going to upgrade my T42's hdd when i go back to Singapore this summer...

i'm looking at 80gb 5400rpm hdd cos the Hitachi 60gb 7200rpm hdd is still too expensive. and Samsung is the cheapest ard..

wat do u think of the Samsung hdds??

i never had any experiance with samsung HD .
i would recommend on "Segate" or "Western-Digital" they got very good and reliable hard drives .

WD is brand new to the laptop field....how do you know their laptop hard drives are reliable yet?

Ive used Samsung desktop drives for a while they perform really really well and are quiet. You could take the model number and stick it in google to see if there are some reviews. But all reviews Ive seen for samsungs desktop drives have been very good.

Samsung is a good over all brand, they make some of the ebst memory chips in the world, and I love their phones. I have a samsung spinpoint 80gb 5400 rpm drive in my Z71v, the laptop was DOA so I cant recommend it until I have a chance to actually use it lol.

I have 2 samsung desktop drives for 2 years, they are very silent and reliable.
They were less than 3 days off altogether during this period and no problems, the SMART is immaculate.
Have to add their desktop 7200 drive has the highest transfer speed beating the 10000 rpm raptors by 50%.
I think can't go wrong with them, I got 3 years warranty for the desktop drives which is also good.

Western digital never feild me in any of the hard drives that i had before ,
WD will allways be WD ... they make hard drives , speicielized in hard drives and nothing else .
samsug in the other hand are good , but samsug its a company that can produce a million products .. from vacum cleaners to chips in cell-phones ...
i dont care much for samsung ... maybe you are ... its your choice .

i've checked that the Samsung 5400rpm 80gb 2.5" hdd is selling for ard Sing $172, thats abt US$100-105..

while the Hitachi 7k60 is selling for Sing $270 ard US$160.

Do u think it's worth it to get the 7k60 instead??

i dun game and i use it more for storage of my MP3s and movies..

I've been using Samsung desktop drives exclusively for the past 2-3 years and love them. They may not be the highest performing drives, but I like their quiet performance and the 3-year warranty. Haven't had any problems with them for the 7 drives I've bought and used.

Dunno too much about their laptop drives, but I certainly wouldn't mind trying one out on my laptop next time I upgrade the drive...my toshiba's running a bit hot...

I replaced the drive in my Fuji with one of the Samsung 80G 5400 drives, and have since swapped it into a couple of other laptops. It is silent, quick and still going. Oh, and cheap.

I highly recommend them.

ok now don't go making up stats, no IDE drive beats the raptors by 50%, and last I checked the raptors were the fastest SATA drive, and even beating most 10k rpm SCSIs and some 15k SCSIs

Also, SMART is more of a motherboard option then a HDD option....the HDD just has extensions to allow the mobo to check its reliability
