Clean install subwoofer problems

Thread Starter
On top of many other unexpected problems that I've had with my 1st reformat and clean install, I just noticed that the subwoofer isn't outputting any sound with the stereo speakers. I've looked into the Sigmatel utility, which is pretty useless, but can anybody help me out so I can feel the bass of a 1in driver?

Also, is there any way to disable the speaker muting when you plug in something through the headphone port or is it a hardware thing that can't be changed? Thanks in advance.

Did you install the Chipset drivers first?

Did you install the Dell Notebook System Software?

Chipset drivers only affect the IDE channels (enables full UDMA 5 support).

Notebook System Software (NSS) is only for SD slot and USB2.0 support if you don't have SP2 already installed.

All you should need is the Sigmatel audio drivers. How can you tell it's not working?Don't expect any heavy bass pounding. It realistically only improves overall volume and some depth. Also go to control panel, Sounds, Advanced, and make sure the speakers are configured for stereo.

You can change the volume of the subwoofer with the standard volume control panel but you might have to go to properties and add it to the list of displayed volumes for playback first

Well it was working before I re-formatted, and now I know its not on because I put my ear up to it and it outputs nothing. I have installed the chipset drivers, NSS, and Sigmatel and adjusted the volume for subwoofer output to max and still nothing works....any more suggestions or ideas?

I don't want to insult your intelligence by suggesting the obvious in typical DELL tech support fashion, but have you gone into the Volume Control and then done Options/Properties and marked the checkbox next to subwoofer and then made sure it is turned up. When I move the slider up and down when the sub is active, it makes a huge difference in sound quality. Hope that helps.

also make sure the mute checkbox for the subwoofer is unchecked
