quality of HP

ok, I've been looking at notebook for about a month now and I just started looking into HPs. they seem to be substantially cheaper than the other brands with the same components. I'm basically looking at the HPZV6000 series. are these quality notebooks or should I be leaning towards another brand? also, where are the cheapest places to get HPs from?

I'm just putting in a good word...not to be biased. I've had good service with my nx9500 (business notebook purchased for me by employer). I had to send it in once so far and turn around time was just a few days. I come from many years of experince with Dell computers which is/was also a great company to work with.

I have the ZV5160us, which is one of the older brothers of your model, and I have to say that other than the crappy GPU that it has (ATI 9000 with shared memory) it's a very good, solid laptop.

so that's the same GPU in the one I'm looking at?

Yours will have (according to www.hpshopping.com) either 32MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M or 128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM).

As I said mine is the older brother. The ZV6000 is AMD whereas for the ZV5000 they used Intels.

Don't worry. I haven't had any problems with mine.

The screen is bright (15,4 @1280x800) and well lit. You can see from various angles without any problems.

The wireless adapter(if they are still using broadcom) is excellent and operates at very high speeds.

p.s. from what I've read try to get one with 128MB ATI GPU, because the 32 MB is shared memory like mine. And this is not good, especcialy if you want to play games.

i have an HP currently and i'd say the quality is shite... but i guess when buying a 699 dollar lappy i didnt expect much... ive heard great things about the higher end/busisness notebooks... also when calling customer service i enjoy the indian folks w/ names such as bob, fred, ron... its a classic...

i'm fixing my brother's ZV5000 and the hD is about to die... what do you know, exactly a month out of the 1 year warrenty. so now i'm in hunt for a HP HD since it's propritary HW... eff'ers!!!

I was using an HP Omnibook XE3 for about 3 years. The screen started to flicker when it wasn't in exactly the right spot. Other than that it was a very good laptop.

I've got a ZD7000, cost me about $2000. It feels pretty solid to me. The systemboard went out, but I had the Best Buy service plan to fix that, so I can't speak much to their repair service. The only problem that I have with it is how the screen is turned off. My mom's toshiba has a little button that gets pushed down by the monitor, while my laptop has some sort of internal switch that doesn't work quite as well as it should. That's just model, can't speak to the one you're looking at.

The sales say it all for Hp. All the companies get their notebooks built in the south east these days. the quality is the same at the same price range. Decide for yourself.

The HD is a standard laptop hard drive. The only thing close to proprietary is the faceplate, just like on every other laptop made. If you're having trouble finding a hard drive, just ask around on the HP forum. People there swap out hard drives all the time, just like every other manufacturer.

My ZV5000 is fine, no problems with it so far. I think the quality of all laptops (from the main vendors) is pretty close to the same, especially considering they all come from the same 2 or 3 factories in the far east.

yup, i had to switch out the HD in my hp ze4610, and its a standard 2.5in HD like all notebooks use (besides the super ultra tiny ones)

here is a deal with hardrives, they are all standard 2.5" IDE drives, however the connectors/caddies are proprietary. all it takes is a screwdriver, 2 minutes, and the intelligence of a monkey to figure out how to work it.

as for HPs, never had computers, only printers. Not the greatest stuff in the world, but cheap and gets the job done.
