IE 6 freezes under Win98SE

I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0 under Windows 98SE with all patches and updates. IE seems to freeze up randomly just while surfing. Basically, it freezes up with the last-used cursor, cannot minimize it, close it, move it, etc. This happens usually once or twice a day (some days it doesn't), and often requires me to reboot via CTRL+ALT+DEL.

Is this a known issue? Can anyone else under this same (or a similar) setup attest to this? (and hopefully provide a fix? )

NOTE: please do NOT tell me to use Firefox (or any other "better" browser for that matter) or upgrade/change my operating system. I want a solution to my problem using the configuration I like...scratch that...need to use.

Thanks!

Try running a spyware scan with Spybot S&D and/or MS Antispyware (not sure if it works on 9x though ).

Aside from that maybe try to close any programs that are open one at a time and see if that has an effect.

Did your PC come with IE 6 installed by default, or did you download it later as an add-on? If you downloaded it, try doing a repair or uninstalling it and reinstalling.

I had a similar problem on WinXP on my lappy a while back, but after SP2 it stopped. That doesn't help you much on Win98 though.

windows 98sucks pure and simple i dont have any other way to put it. upgrade to windows xp you wont regret it. can get full version at directron for around 80.00 bucks. no more locking or freezing no more blue screens of death or illegal operations etc. microsoft is starting not to support the older operating systems anyways.

If you downloaded & installed IE then try to reinstall...

Alternatively you could try the system file checker....

Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the protected files on your computer:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK

Havent tried it in Windows 98, but works in XP...
