Sager 4791 <> Clevo D48EV SP2 and/or Bios problems

Hi all,

I found this forum and decided to give it a go. We have a couple of Clevo D48EV notebooks. Judging from pics and specs they appear to be the units used by Sager np4791.

Everything's been running smoothly but after going from SP1 to Win XP SP2 there are now several problems of which Adobe Photoshop CS freezing is the worst.

Is everybody running SP2 with their np4791 and if yes, what bios version do you use? Did you get updated bios from Sager?

Unfortunately Clevo (the manufacturer of the base units) isn't responding to support / bios questions and no bios is available to download.

That's hardly a solution. But I'd be interested to know if users of Sager np4791 run on SP2 and whether they have problems or not.

I would think Sager is capable of providing updated Bios if needed but atleast right now it seems Clevo couldn't do that. This is a serious limitation of otherwise good notebooks.

The issue seems to be related to multi-processor support in SP2 because if I turn off Hyper-Threading from bios I am able to use Photoshop CS. Enabling HT renders Photoshop CS almost useless although experimenting with various Ati Mobility Radeon drivers did provide slight improvment.

It's pretty obvious this Clevo model needs updated bios to work with SP2. I've tested it on several machines with similar results.

the 47xx series gets little support so i doubt there is a new bios. this model is not that popular. my 4780 only recieved 1 bios update ever.
