Where is a good laptop Overlap Tray?

Ok, keep in mind that I think I just found out what this product I was thinking of is called, an Overlap Tray. I'm looking for a decent tray which can hold a 17" laptop and mouse on the side comfortably as I lay in bed. Assuming I've correctly identified this product as an Overlap Tray, does anyone have any recommendations and can link or point me to one, preferably $50 or less? I've seen 2 popular kinds via a google search, and they look decent but $100.

Sounds like something you could pretty easily make yourself with a spare piece of plywood!! Find it at your local neighborhood new construction dumpster for the low price of. . .FREE!

You probably already thought of that, though.

Lol, do 'laptop overlap tray' in google and 20 out of the first 25 hits will show the same 2 products I mentioned over and over again...I'm looking for something other than these 2, there's gotta be a market that has more than 2 items lol.
It might help if you told us the results of your search so we don't give you the same links. Have you looked at Lapworks Laptop Desk ?

Why not put the laptop in your lap and lower sperm count ?

I was hoping for some serious answers, recommendations or experiences...

Cliegal, thx for the link I didn't see that one. But that one looks no good because the mouse area is very small, and the whole weight of the laptop would be on your lap. I am hoping for something with 2 legs to each side that can take the weight off the human and put it on the bed...

The Link from Cliegal looks really good, ......and at the bottom there is a button offering to add a "Mouzpad"; which clicks on. Looks good. So that solves one of your problems....I heard the i9300 is only 8 pounds, XPS G2 about 10.

I've just ordered one of the Lapworks with the mouzpad attachment. I'll use it when I'm on the deck or in my livingroom mainly. When I use my laptop in bed, I have it on a breakfast tray in front of me, wireless or usb keyboard on my lap and I just use the mouse on the mousepad next to me. Sometimes I'll just set the mousepad on a phone book to elevate it a bit. Nothing fancy but it works well.

I*'m currently trying out two types of lap desks for my XPS GEN2- both recently picked up at a place called "The Container Store" for $15-$20 each. From what it sounds like the cheaper might work for you. It is basically a thin sheet of plastic (a bit under 19"x15")with a beanbag type padding underneath. It's larger than the laptop so I can put my XPS on one side up front, put my USB wireless mouse "transmitter-stick-thingy" in back without fear of snapping it off if I move, and have about 3.5" clearance (4.25" if I let it hang out a bit) for my small mouse.

The website does not show the item but they do carry it in store for $13.99 prouct#210020 "Executive Lap Desk". If you don't live near one http://www.containerstore.com/find/index.jhtml I'm sure they'll ship.

It may not be the best solution ever but it's light and cheap and doesn't block the fan vents underneath. For what it costs I'm happy with it. I hope this helps.

This is exactly what I used for my last computer. It's sold as a breakfast tray or Laptray for TV dinners etc. Only problem with the XPS; is that it's too big for my tray. Mine has a small lip around it. Then again you could always have it going over the top lip; providing airflow underneath Lappy. Mine cost $8.50

Ok, i accidentally bought the lapworks ultralight, because of a mess up by Targus which rebrands lapworks products. For the 9300 the ultralight sucks...flimsy...uncomfortalbe plastic rubbing on legs and the mouse slides of way too easily...If the Lapworks 2.0 has the same material, then its crap too. I can't handle the mouse sliding off so often. Only way to be sure you get the 2.0 is to buy directly from www.lapworks.com. I contacted lapworks and they admitted this problem and applogized.

I also bought some cheap rolling laptop table from Staples , however, my wife says its way too ugly to have in the house (Base of tray is actually silver, not black).

So now my options are...

There are many versions of this one...and

This looks like the best one for me.

Hope this helps.

Thx for the assist mimiman76, but both of those links at the end just sit on your lap. What I want is something more comfortable. I'd rather have all the weight of the laptop plus stand on the bed, not on my legs. If I sit there for 5 hours, it would be nicer that way...

Conceptionally, I'm looking for something like this, but cheaper...

Wow, that breakfast tray looks fantastic! If I had not ordered the Lapworks 2.0 this morning I would have bought that tray in a heartbeat. I think it will be my next purchase. It's a very good price. You'll be hard pressed to find something like that for less.

mimiman - I bought that same laptop cart at staples and I agree with your wife. It's going to be stored in my garage soon. Not only is it ugly but the laptop tray tilts too easily. I'm afraid I may it may flip one way or the other and my 9300 will end up on the floor.

Yeah, they look perfect. If I were you; and your going to be using it for 5 hours at a time, I'd just spend the extra $50. Comfort is too important.

For me, if I'm comfortable, an hour of work takes an hour, but if I'm uncomfortable it takes 2. ..... Or; I bet if you give a carpenter $50 and show him the pictures, he'd make one up for you.

You should let us know when the Lapworks 2.0 arrives if it's the "flimsy...uncomfortable plastic...." that "Mimiman" described of the ultralight one. I doubt it as that’s probably because it's for the "ultralights".

I'm not so sure that the breakfast tray ones wouldn't be too high. I'd prefer the Lapwork ones if they're not flimsy, as I'd probably be using it for no more than 30 mins each time.

I dont think that I could handle anything directly on my lap, because I move around alot...I'm a fidgety person (probably with adult adhd). I think im going to keep looking!

Well you know what, I bought that $13.99 one from The Container Store during lunch, I figure it will keep me sorta happy until I find a better solution. I was considering buying wood from Home Depot and building something, but my lack of tools and experience cancelled that idea.

This one looks particularly intriguing being only $15, and it has the legs and everything. It's very wide at 25" plenty of room for a mouse on the side. But I wonder if the 10.75" legs aren't too tall when you are on the bed.

I may try that anyway, then if they both don't satisfy me, I may just go ahead with that great looking $89.99 wooden one I linked earlier...
