Hp Laptop Hardware Problem (help Please)

Thread Starter
I have an HP Pavilion zt1180 that seems to have died. It was working okay at work. I shut down and went home and tried to power up and nothing happens. All of the lights come up and the small info LCD that tells me the time and power stats ect. all work and I can still play a music CD and it playes fine. Does anyone have any ideas or have you seen this before? It takes about 10 to 15 times of restarting and then somethings the screen will come on. MOST OF THE TIME THE SCREEN HAS NO DISPLAY. CAN THIS BE THE INVERTER?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hmmm, probably a faulty component that's making the laptop sluggish..
I can't be specific, sorry.
I know one thing, (please or offend) I think Hewlett Packard laptops are complete crap.
I bought one back in 1999.
It broke down a month after purchase so I called HP and had it taken in for repair.
I got it back a week later.
Two days later it broke down again.
For a whole year it was being sent back for repairs.
I gave up in the end and got my lawyer to 'deal' with the company.

The moral of this story is... Don't buy anything by HP.

They make their laptops from old, obsolete parts.

A test for a failed back light is shine a flashlight on the screen. IT should reflect enough light to see a faint screen.

I would suspect however, that the motherboard or video has died. I have a Presario 2585 that went back to HP/Compaq for the same sysptoms. I took three repair attempts to get it right. The last replaced item was the motherboard.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Welcome to my world for the whole of this year.

I beleive you have burnt part of your Inbuiltg gfx card on your motherboard. Or its about to be burnt.

My ex Zd7255 did exactly what u described 4 times in a row.

Hp uk support will scratch and mess up ur laptop by the way. Send it in for repair as soon as possible. the 3rd time it blows ... dont accept to be motherboard replaced .. ask for a new model.

if you restart your pc and while its booting press Fn-f4 it should light the display and display everything messed up.

also if you hook up an external display it should work .. use that to back up your data ...
