Today, HP announced the L2000 notebook, and it’s a little different than the company’s usual suspects. This one is racing bike black, with the phrase LiveStrong emblazoned in yellow on the front, and Lance Armstrong’s signature etched inside on the right palm rest. HP joins AMD and the Lance Armstrong Foundation to promote LiveStrong, with the hope that consumers will join in the fight against cancer.

The L2000 is a well-rounded, well-equipped laptop. Weighing just 5.3 pounds with a 14-inch wide-screen, this special edition HP system could be ideal for the back-to-school bunch. It comes with the AMD Turion 64 mobile processor, which has in the past garnered very good performance results. The system is outfitted with three USB ports, a FireWire port, a 6-in-1 digital media reader, up to a 80GB hard drive, and 802.11g wireless. Optionally, you can configure your system with a DVD+-RW dual format, dual-layer optical drive and LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology.

In line with the Armstrong theme, you also get yellow stereo ear buds to listen to the embedded Altec Lansing speakers, and of course, the yellow LiveStrong wristband. Aside from the fact that you’re getting a great notebook, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you’re helping a good cause: $50 of the laptop’s selling price goes to the Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer research.

The LiveStrong laptop’s starting price is $999, after rebate. It will be available from hpshopping.com on June 22 and from retailers nationwide in mid July.

if you configure this system at hp with everything top of the line except memory, it still only be around $1200. and if you live in a state that does not listed on hp sale tax states, then it's tax free and shipping free. so basically i might thinking of getting this one. as far as battery life i think this nokebook battery life will run somwhere aroud 6 hours with 12 cell battery. i think this notebook is a well balance of performance, portability (being only 5.3 pounds and the size is perferct 14" wide screen with 1280 x 768 resolution brightview), speed, and battery life, and the radeon express x200m isn't too shabby either from what i've heard. here is what i have configured at hp.com

2gh athlon turion cpu
8gb 5400 rpm hard drive
lightscribe dvd burner (that is a great optical drive for lightscribe technology)
512 meg ram that it comes with ( i will get 2 gig elsewhere for $200)
internal wi-fi and bluetooth build in
12 cell battery ( this will last you in the 6 hour upward range for sure)

all of that for $1200. can you believe that $1200? and if i want 2 gig of ram then add another $200, for a total of $1400. that is pretty hard to beat for a notebook.
