Do you guys find Far Cry difficult?

Am interested in what other Alienware owners think about Far Cry. One of the main reasons I bought my Aurora 7500 was to play games like Far Cry and HL-2. Just finished Far Cry tonight - and I wasn't disappointed. Absolutely loved the game, especially all the outdoor action. BUT - this is the hardest game I've played. I'm more of an RPG type of gal, but like FPS games. Had no real problems with Doom 3 and Halo 1 & 2 - but Far Cry cleaned my clock...

Was this game particularly difficult for you hardcore gamers, or am I just a wuss...?

No, I don't think you are, I struggled as well in sections and on at least 2 levels had to get my son (14) to clear a section for me...he finished the game in like 2 days, I took almost a month, but enjoyed it thoroughly.

HL2 I'm still playing off and on...I have really got to sit down and finish it one night. Doom3 I have to restart as all my saves were wiped. Halo I just lost interest in, can not tell you why, it just faded on me...

But the Unholy Trinity of Gaming Goodness, Doom3, HL2 and Far Cry will always be on my system...I enjoy them way too much at this point to delete. NFS Underground2 is taking up my time, trying to get the magical almost unattainable 100% completion thing...such a simple arcade racer yet I'm playing it almost 6hrs a day/night.

Yes Far Cry is tough, particularly when those crazy mutants are able to take you down with two swipes.

The best aspect about Far Cry is that it is possibe to complete levels unscathed (well the outdoor parts anyway) but you really need to think about the best approach to doing so. Usually a mix of stealth and sneak attacks works well. Which of course means that the levels last a lot longer than a simple run and gun affair. But the game, for the most part, really does let you decide which route you want to take - which is why it is such a good game. My only gripe is that the last level (the volcano one) can be ridiculously tough to complete - and of course some of the trash talk spoken by the mercs is just embarrasing, e.g " Right between the eyes MOFO!" WTF? Who ever says that??

I too keep HL2 and Doom3 on my 7700 and I enjoy all of them too much to delete them just yet.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that kinda had a hard time with it. But you can't forget to give honorable mention to Painkiller for another great FPS. The game is worth the 20 bucks just for the primary weapon you start with.

yea, it takes some getting used to for some reason for weeks i couldnt get past level 5 but then i just played a weekend full of it (lots of supid trigen deaths tho) and beat the damn thing, but the last 2 levels of the games are friggin hard!

P.S when ur left alone in the jungle with the waterfall, stay along the river because trigens drown

P.P.S Great games that nobody knows
1. postal 2
2. painkiller
3. flatout

The Painkiller primary weapon is awesome. When I first used it in the Painkiller demo I HAD t have that game. Anyone try the Painkiller expansion yet/ I am going to eventually get that. Nothing like straight up killing monsters.

I usually play games on the hardest. Far Cry looked sooo good that I didnt really mind getting fragged over and over. I really liked being able to mix it up and use different tactics to complete a mission. different paths, etc. You werent in a hallway with only one direction. and the game seemed to go On and On and... excellent replay value. Just thinking about it, I want to play.

I found Far Cry to be very difficult in parts -- especially near the end. I remember that section very near the end when you come through a door (that closes behind you) that opens out to a huge expanse. There are four of those sniper mutants jumping around, and a whole bunch of those rocket-launcher dudes. I tried that over and over and over and simply couldn't survive. Finally, I looked for strategies online and it suggested that you shoot a chair from a far-away room over to the door to keep it from closing. That way, you can go back to the supply room that's just before that area and replenish weapons/get healed. It was relatively easy after that. But yes, I also died at the hands (or claws) of many a Trigen on my way through. Tremendous game.

Still Stuck on FarCry

Yes, its hard. I'm still stuck on one of the last levels where you steal a diesel truck, drive down a long pier and a huge melee breaks out. I climbed up the inside of a long tunnel and got to a ridge where a hanglider waits. Every time I take the hang glider and land on a beach, some sort of mutant kills me in seconds, which pisses me off because it takes minutes to ride the hang glider down from the ridge.... HELP !!

Hmmm, not sure where you are...

The diesel truck thing with the bridge, if I'm thinking of the right spot, you can get out of the truck, jump in the water off the bridge, and swim past the melee. Go to the right, and you can get out of the water and walk up the hill to a door that will take you to the next level...

The hang glider has me confused. I don't remember ever gliding to a beach except in the level where you're blowing up satellite dishes, but I don't remember having trouble with the mutants. Maybe you're landing in the wrong area. Is it dark where you're using the glider or sunny?

I was hard, but that was part of what made it such a great game.

It made you slow down and be careful, which made it more immersive and play longer. I loved the game and have played through it a couple times.

Not too bad, played on medium and loved the game, even played it 3 times

I don't know, Far cry I played on the hardest difficulty and I didn't find it all that difficult, I found it had a humgous parallels between Doom3 and HL2. So I found it not so difficult to pick off people...adn those mutants were great...Just use Halo2 tactics and it was a breeze.

Doom3 was cool for like an hour and I got tired of it...it was same mundane thing over and over again.. HL2 I haven't gotten too far, so far I'm impressed with the overall gameplay and look of it. So far its been pretty easy...But hopefully it will start getting difficult, One real problem that I have come across with HL2 and its really frustrating, is that I always come across the most insane glitches, that I somehow cause and I don't have any way figuring out how I caused, enabling me to restart from some ungodly checkpoint like an hour ago. SOme of these glitches are mind bending.

Alien Head - you are my hero! I agree that Doom 3 was repetitious - the fact that you can save anywhere made it less tedious to play through.

Thanks for the feedback that others find Far Cry difficult. I'll definitely try it again, as it does have a high replayability factor.

I'm glad I'm your hero...but what exactly does the heroness come from?

Its at night

The diesel truck, the melee the tunnel and the hang glider are all at night. You could walk down off the ridge to your left and eventually walk to the beach but there are a lot of nasty creatures, and more than one of those RPG equiped mega mutants. If you hang glide down to the beach, 2 or 3 of the mutants come after you. If you hang with them too long one of the mega mutants comes and RPG's you. I am starting to consider using a cheat code to get thru this part. Sound familure to anyone ?

To Alien Head - your heroness comes from being able to finish Far Cry on the hardest difficulty , when I struggled to finish on normal (and a few levels at easy) mode. That's why I've not ventured into online gaming - you guys are too good!
venture into online gaming you wont go back. I hardly ever finish a game anymore. My attention span is just so bad. Online gaming has me addicted though. Its just more competitive playing real people than whats available through the game. HL2 was amazing, and is far cry, but all of those quests have stopped because counter strike source rules all

Yeah CS:S is great I play CS when it came out a long long time ago...NOw I play more Halo2 then anything else...I like CS:S a lot, but I can't deem anymore time for it. *must get up to higher level...must get up to a higher level*

Shazza: Cool, yeah well when you have basically played a crap load of FPS's, you tend to use basically the same tactic when firing on people. The same goes with Doom3, HL2 and FC...(at the moment I can't think of any other FPS'S). Plus, when you play online you learn new tactics, since Human players are naturally smarter than AI (and its not like that all the time, but I would say at least 75% of the time) then when playing the game you can make better informed decisions and take a better stand point when either being charged by enemies, or your doing the sniping..>Taking out key points, then finding the weak points. If all else fails charge in with a pistol and make some really good headshots. heh

That's the area with the Lighthouse right? You start off in a fort where the mercs are fighting Trigens and then you end up on the beach. There are hanggliders by the Lighthouse.

C'mon Shazza, join us online, I am horrible but once in a while something happens, like 2 nights ago I ran into a room and with a sinking heart saw 4 terrorists...and they all turned towards me...have you ever had the feeling that you're the subject of some unwanted attention, and before I did my usual catch-a-bullet-with-my-head routine, I killed all of them! The fact that in the next 4 games I was one of the first to get killed didn't make a difference, as I replayed that moment in my head over and over and over and over and over.............................................................I feel good, so good, I shot you <does James Brown shufffle> HEY!
