For the m680, should we download the Windows Update that comes from ATI or should we not? Anyone tried it and did it have any adverse effects on your machine? Thanks.

I only had adverse side effects from trying the ATI Catylist Drivers and the Omega Drivers. I actually used the updated Windows drivers from ATI to fix what got messed up. They work great.

Then although I have loaded the Gatway ATI Driver and CP, I can still download this update now from ATI and possibly not have any adverse effects? I hope I am clear about this. Might even image my C drive before I do this just in case. And, thanks for the tips about the other drivers. I thought about fooling with them but I might hold off for a while? Maybe some have had better luck with these other video drivers. If you have, I would be interesting in knowing. Thanks.

You guys do know the ATi Drivers on the Windows Update site ARE the Official ATi Catalyst Drivers right? Just an older version 99% of the time.

Not the one mine updated. I had nothing but problems with the New Catylist drivers. I checked the specifications on the ATI site and they have most of the recent cards in the lineup. But they don't seem to mention the X700. I see X800, X600, 9800, 9700 etc., but they seem to breeze right by the X700 when they are listing the supported cards. If someone know different let me know. I would love the link to the catylist drivers that will work with the X700.

Do you think it would hurt if I do the Windows Updated ATI driver 5.7 MB on Microsoft Update site, after I have already installed the Gateway ATI Driver?

No that won't hurt. You can also just go to your device manager and update the driver from there. Either way you can roll back the driver in your device manager if you are not satisfied.

You can't download ATI drivers specific to your notebooks graphics card as ATI does not support them (to answer a previous question of yours).

Used Driver Update as you mentioned and seem to have no ill effects at this time. Thanks.
