Yeah, but I believe you could afford the S, which is a great notebook as well.

I'm canadian too. which uni tech_girl? I'm sure most of them have deals with Ibm. I love my Thinkpad T42 and at the right price (Retail is $2300 on mine) I think you should go for it. IBM has GREAT services, onsite at most universities and their really durable.

Check those out Oh and the IBMs at the campus store should at least have 3 year warantee possibly with Thinkpad Protection which covers accidents. If not take the discount they offer and buy warantee for a $100 or so from IBM

If your budget is $2000 with warranty (are you including tax in that figure), definitely count out sonys. The S series starts at around $2500CAD and the T is even more from what I remember.

If you want something cheap and powerful you may have to go with something a bit heavier. And if you're only moving it a handful of times throughout the year, you definitely don't need something like an ultracompact T series VAIO. If you are bringing it to class every day then that's a different story. Plus the advantage of a larger/heavier laptop is a larger screen, which might be nice if you're using photoshop/CAD.

Yeah, good points. I'd love to have a Sony (I love how they look!) but it's not really in the budget.

Airwick: I'm going to Ryerson University.

Sonys do look great, but are expensive and from what I've heard, not so reliable. If you want a relatively inexpensive notebook with good warranty the best prices I've found so far are with Dell. If you're looking at 3 year warranty, Futureshop told me it would be $400 extra, which makes other brands far more expensive. For less than that cost you can get complete care with dell.
