I've got said laptop with a cd/dvd drive. The drive slowly died on me, so off I went and got a replacement. The replacement drive is a Toshiba SD-R2002, which is said to be compatible and has the correct connector. The problem (after replacing the drive) is that the computer can't find the drive when the machine starts. It hangs trying to probe for devices and then gives up 20 or 30 seconds later. I noticed the original drive has the same SD-R2002 pcb inside the drive. Can anyone think of what might be the problem? Though this laptop is older, I'd hate to scrap it because of no cdrom.
