New ram on Emachines M6811

Hello everyone I am ordering the M6811 in about 2 weeks. I am going to upgrade the HDD and Ram. I have the 60GB 7200 Hitachi. And I have an external case for the 80GB 4200 drive that comes in the Emachines.

Now my question is getting good cheap compatable ram. I really would like to know what my best bet would be? Im currently looking at this ram looks good, but will it work with my m6811? Thanks!!

Also I was looking to buy from this online vendor. If anyone has any stories, please tell

Used eMachines sold online usually have the hinge cracks on them already, thats why they put "unit may have some scratches or blemishes." Tiger Direct and Mac Universe sell a bunch of these refurb eMachines.. try checking out eBay, look for ones that have the actual pictures so you can see the exact condition. Otherwise they are still a good deal.

Were you looking to put 2GB in it? check out..

no rebate and cheap shipping. Most RAM are compatible for the machine but sometimes are not compatible with other brands of RAM. Check out PC3200 RAM too, not much difference in price adn remember to buy matching modules.

Maybe I just got lucky but the refurbed M2350 I got from TigerDirect looks perfect. Only problem I had was missing installed software which was fixed by doing a reinstall from the supplied disks.

Yuppers. Lots of success stories from people around here with Kingston. There was a bad batch they got into there for a bit, but RMA's to Kingston were taking care of it. Appears from comments, outpost has good 'uns in now.

my memory experience

I bought the Outpost Kingston, one module one week, another 2 weeks later, both with rebates. The first I took apart my m6805 and put it in there. The second I put into the bottom, but it went out suddently after a week of use. Nothing was corrupted. The memory just suddently stopped working. Everything would freeze in Windows. I powered off and back on, and it would either not do anything, or if would freeze in the memory test. I put the original stick back in and it worked fine. Yesterday I sent off the RAM ($5 ground shipping) to Kingston after getting a RMA. Luckily it was the memory in the bottom that went bad and I didin't have to take everything apart to replace the memory. So I guess it's a mixed bag as to whether you'll get good Kingston memory, based on my experience and from what others say.

hmm I was thinking that I was only going to upgrade to 1256 ram. I will be using this mainly for games and such. But I dont think I can offord more than the extra 1 gb of ram. So I most likely will keep the internal ram in and just replace the easy to replace ram. Thanks all, this is helping alot!

I received the 1GB Kingmax sodimm from newegg and installed it in my m6811 on 6/1/05. I now have 1.25GB ram in my laptop.

I ran it through 6+ hours of memtest86+, extended periods of Doom3, and several movies without a single glitch or compatibility issues with the internal 256MB module

Overall, much faster than the stock 512MB configuration in running and loading apps/games. It is about the same running apps with 768MB ram, but 1.25GB definitely loads apps and has far fewer game stutters in Doom3.

For those considering the 1GB Kingmax RAM, I've been running it in my m6805 ofo5.Poo BIOS machine for the past week and it seems quite compatable and had no errors when tested with Memtest86. New Egg had it for $120 with shipping.
