ATI X800 or Nvidia 6800 :(

I cannot decide between the ati or nvidia option for the 7700. Will someone tell me which one works faster, and no bullshit, if you can gimme 3d mark scores? thanks for your help

They are pretty much equivalent as long as you are comparing DDR3 versions of both cards. 3DMark scores are essentially the same for both cards. Most people simply pick on personal preference between these two cards.

ATI BABY!!!! Well I guess in the long run it doesn't really matter. One thing you will have to keep in mind is that, if this is the laptop, you will need to get the nvidia card if you want internal wireless. But if you don't care, as I did, then get the ATI. The ATI card may run a bit warmer and have a slightly higher score on certain games at certain resolutions. But the scores were so close that they are mostly insignificant. Now if you were trying to comepare the x850 against the 6800...(or whichever) I chose the x850, partially because of the name, but the rest because of ridiculous scores I've gotten and crazy...crazy...crazy Graphics on ridiculous resolutions.

On a side note, you might want to check out the numerous other threads talking about the same topic, Everybody has the same questions, and eveyrbody mosly gets the same answer. To keep from sounding over-redundant it would keep from the added clutter on the forum...but whateve I guess its not really my place to say anyway.

there are 123217314637371734 threads on this issue... do a search and you'll hear both sides

My 7700 with Geforce 6800 Go scores 4093 benchmarks in 3dmark05. This is set to default without tweaking and without overclocking.

Now if somebody with a Radeon will give you an equivalent rating, you'll have your answer.

The internal WiFi / Bluetooth mini-PCI combo card has no problems with either video card. Which card does AlienWare ship with their systems that causes a conflict?

The choice depends on you .

Nvidia is more advanced and technologically more ahead than ati.Even the bios updates and drivers are better .

Ati has got better availability and is currently the Oem's choice for most of the computers.

IF you have a choice definitely go for Nvidia.I have an ati myself but I am not a fanboy.

PS:- IF you can wait for a month Nvidia is gonna release a SLi card for notebooks. It is gonna blow the ultra from nvidia itself and ati x850 like candles in a storm

I don't have a preference for either card. But one deciding factor would the temperature they run at. I've heard the Nvidia runs slightly cooler than the ATI.

as i said Nvidia runs better technology. ati is favoured by OEm's .decision lies on you.I would buy nvidia if i am a gamer but for everyday use I will buy and ati.

wow sli for notebooks *drools* i want that but i have to get my lappy this summer, around june.

6800 ultra, and sli is a waste in a notebook since it is inevitable that there will be single card applications in the near future that will outperform duel cards =P

From what i got from ppl who use the cards.. The nvida card might run a bit faster, but have alot more graphics glitches with games such as wow.

any glitches tend to be a driver issue, and frankly nothing is every created equal...w/ that said you can't really go wrong w/ either but you might as well get the latest of mobile technology while you can

As near as I can tell, ATI owns the mid-level and entry-level graphics card world. The Radeon 9x00 series blows the socks off of Nvidias "whoops" of a FX5x00 series cards. However, once Nvidia released the BEAUTIFUL 6x00 series, ATI took their sweet time to respond with the X series. The X300 isn't even as good as the 9700 from what I hear, and in agreement with other posters, the Nvidia 6800 series cards are just built way better. Better engineering, better manufacturing, overall better cards. Is the speed that much different? No, its not. There are other factors in computer hardware than speed. The 6800 doesn't blow the X800 out of the water, but Nvidia definately owns the high-end graphics market.

And to whomever said that SLI was pointless, me and my dual 6600 GTs would love to differ with you. I went from a 9800Pro to dual 6600sGTs, and the difference is amazing. If you want a cool (as in temperature), stable, business-with-games-on-the-side, battery-life laptop, get a Radeon 9700. If you want a gaming laptop that performs the socks off of your buddies with Sony Vaios, get the 6800 Ultra. An X800 shouldn't even be in the running.

Back when I had my 7700m my 3dmark05 with the 6800 was 5300 (00 = something). That was no oc and just minor stuff from tweakhound to make windows faster. But my score was irrelavent as I had video issues with my card. I chose nvidia again but only cuase I really wanted a SLI system or else I would of tried ATI for a change.
