FIX for the 2915 802.11 abg wireless card

BIG NEWS for Intel 2915 802.11 abg wireless Owners

I wanted to let you all know that I contacted Intel support about my 2915abg dropping connections and the speed dropping down to 1Mbps even though the connection quality was good and they e-mailed me a link to a new driver and software. (Driver Version 9.0.1.21 for the 802.11 abg card). This replaces the Buggy ver 9.01.9. They told me this WOULD fix the problem.

I installed it and my connection has been rock solid at 54 mbs. And I don't experience the delays and pauses anymore either and the wireless throughput has gone way up. No glitches on this one !!!!!!!

I have been using the driver from DELL without noticing problems with the 2915. Are lots of other people having problems it? I am using it with a Linksys WRT54G.

The download is more than just the driver, it's an Archive with contains both the new driver and a new version of the intel PROwireless Software.

This new Software is NOT listed on the Intel Support website -

You will neeed to download -
The Archive containing device driver version 9.0.1.21 and Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software version 9.0.1.4. Instructions are included.

YOU MAY WANT TO GET SPECIFIC INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FROM INTEL TECH SUPPORT. You can get ahold of them at (916) 377-7000.

This is what They emailed me ....... I installed it... And it works GREAT !!!

If yours is rock solid then I certinly woulnt bother with this new driver. Not all people are having this problem that I had with the 2915 abg card.... Many of the 2915's out there are working just fine, but quite a few arent either. Check the forum at http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/wlan for more information and for input from other people who have had this problem. Great forum to join too !!! Great Speed tests and misc. tools.

The URL on the 2915 wireless problems is
http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,13185998 You will see that a number of people are having the problem.....

My machine is an A600 and the wiress stuff came preloaded by Sony.... There was no user error installing the old driver... But there was a bad problem of some kind which Sony told me "was normal"

A lot of people with Dell Lappys and this 2915 card have reported the exact same problem.

Wow. Good find! And here I was thinking it was my dlink 624 and about bought a very expensive new router. Now instead of 24mbps I'm getting a constant 54. Now we'll have to see if I'm still getting kicked off WoW every other hr.
