Good website for a rookie dvd burner.

We've got one in the oven and in-laws in Australia. It's time to buy a video camera that I can use to burn to DVD. Is there a website that I could use for research on cameras and software?
Also, as far as laptop power. Will the power of the laptop only make a difference in the time it takes to edit, or will I have a problem with quality of the finished product as well? I have two laptops, but the slower one is the one with the dvd burner. Thanks for the help.

http://www.camcorderinfo.com/

This website is, hands down, the most thorough and up-to-date resource on digital camcorders. They have good reviews and even better user reviews. This is the resource I used when I bought mine.

In regards to your other question, what kind of processor do you have in each laptop? How much ram in each laptop? You could perhaps swap the DVD burner into the faster laptop if you wanted.

Odie

8600 1.6 Doth/512 mb/64 mb nvida/ 60gb hd/ dvd-cd burner
6000D 1.6 Son/1 gb/ 128 x300/ 60gb/ cd burner-dvd player

I've asked on the dell board about swaping them out, but I haven't gotten an answer yet.
Will the 8600 get the job done?
