Trouble with Asus z71v

Thread Starter
I had recently purchased the Asus z71v
Asus Z71v @ 2.13ghz 2gig 60gb 5400 RPM SATA 128mb Gforce 6600 GO

I have been having problems whenever i would try to play games and was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

Whenever i would play a game it would start freezing not matter what the graphics settings are at. It would do that for a while so I had some people look at it and they said i had too many programs running in the background and game to the conclusion to reformat.

After that i still had the same problem unless i restart my computer everytime i want to play a game.

I just got my asus z71v and it hasn't frozen yet. Haven't played any games yet though.

sounds like a software problem if it doesnt happen after you reboot. what OS ? im assuing xp, if so, go to start/ run/ msconfig , choose selective start up and deselect all the programs booting up this should free up ram. But there is no way you could use all 2 gigs of ram without having atleast 20 programs open.

I tried updating the vid drivers before I was suggested to reformat.

Only game I have played recently was CS:S

it happened before i reformated on doom3

What was the freezing like? Was it the screen filling up with gibberish and the last sound repeating (sometimes) with an extremely loud buzzing? If so, check the clock on your grpahics card. Mine happened to come overclocked, and that happened on a lot of games (Half-Life 2 would crash within five minutes. Always.)

I had a problem with mine restarting as well during gaming....

One thing that seemed to help was Control Pannel>Power options>Power Schemes>Home/Office desk

Not sure what it does really... but seemed to have helped

Odd. Played CS:S (playing now actually), KOTR II, and FarCry. No problems so far.

It would just freeze at the last frame it was on for 5-15 seconds. Yeah I guess it would be considered a buzzing sound. How would I find out if my graphics card is over clocked.

Why would a graphics card being overclocked cause the game to crash?

Heat does bad things to computer components. Overclocking increases power flow, which increases waste heat.

Turns out that the "Power options" deal didn't fix anything... what mine does when it freezes is it playes a sound byte repeatedly (Instead of "Roger that", i hear "Ro-ro-ro-ro-ro-ro-ger-ger-ger-ger-ger-ger-get tha-tha-tha....." oh you get the picture) and then screen goes black and up comes the Centrino splash...

I tried reformating, however that didn't solve the problem. ISTNC still think it may be a software issue, but I'm still unsure. It did the same thing in 3Dmark05 and Splinter Cell... runnin' the newest signed drivers as well. Im packin' it up tomorrow and sending it to 'em so they can take a look. I'll let you know what my outcome is

I had this same problem but mine would run fine as long as I restarted my computer. Also it wouldn't alway just go blak and restart most the time it would recover for a few seconds and happen again.

Well a reformat would pretty much tell you if it is a software problem or not. If it still persists after a reformat, it is definately a hardware problem.
