I ran a about 1Hour45Mins DVD with almost loudest speaker and after the movie finished the battery life was at 27%. there was MSN Messenger running in the background so if you close it i guess it will last longer.

Hey, polar, are you going to write a detailed review on this later?

RAM questions

Would you guys consider the 333mhz RAM in the Ferrari 4000 to be bad? How does it compare to 400mhz on the same/similar machine? Is anything lost by choosing a Turion now which doesn't support DDR2, rather than a Pentium? Or in the long run is the 64bit that much better because new RAM will come out soon anyways?

I went to an exchange rate site and plugged in the numbers and here is what I got: 2,549.99 CAD Canada Dollars = 2,034.21 USD United States Dollars

Now if it comes to the US at around that price, I think I know what laptop I will be getting .

EDIT: I've already seen this stated somewhere, but from that website posted, the ferrari 4000 is CHEAPER than the TM8104!!

$2449 CANADIAN with the following specs:

AMD Turion 64 2.0GHz
1GB RAM, 100GB HDD
DVD+/-RW (dual layer)
15.4" WSXGA+ display, ATI X700 128 DDR
WLAN b/g, gigabit LAN, modem
5-in-1 card reader, Bluetooth
Windows XP Pro

at pacific notebooks..

im guessing its pre-order..

not a bad price, under 2k USD?

Part of the reason for the cheap price is the processor in orders of a 1000 or more are under $400 from AMD, which is alot cheaper than the Pentium M. Also because the ram is slower it too is pretty cheap. And they have tons of X700's laying around with 100 gig 5.4k RPM drives, curved keyboards, and 15.4" WSXGA+ screens. So all that is really left is the motherboard which it is sharing with the 5020 if I remember correctly. Lastly the case is just the 8100 case painted with a different LCD casing and the slot-loading burner isn't too expensive so it is rightfully cheaper than the 8104.

Just my 2 Lincoln's

Uhh... battery tests on low-volt/stock/DVD/heavy loads. Heat/noise level on those levels, too. I know I sound demanding, but that is what you get for advertising at this place that you got one of the first Ferrari 4000's. This will make my purchase a LOT easier.... :-) (BTW, do you think we can grab batteries after market?)

Edit: Nevermind, saw your battery test on DVD. Thanks!

BTW, Does it have AutoDVD or whatever, that can play DVDs without booting up Windows?

got an update on the battery..i tested out the AMD PowerNow! and chose Video Playback Mode. i ran the same movie and after it had an battery life of 36%! a good improvement on lowering the battery usage. the AMD PowerNow! has gaming mode but i m not sure if that reduces the games perfomance or not.i ll test more out later.

BannedNinja:na, i cant see anyway yet for playing dvd without booting up.

All-Black

PolarTW,
Is your the all-black model or black-red? They will be different models?
Thanks,
Guilherme

PolarTw, have you looked into how hard it is to replace various parts? From the manual the wireless, hd, and RAM don't look too bad, but what about the processor?
What are the specs on the carbon-fibre casing? I understand it is only on the LCD side but...

How much does it reduce weight?
How much stronger is it?
jmd526, I don't have much of anything definite, but here is what was posted in the http://www.etaiwannews.com/Taiwan/Bu...1117156972.htm press release.
"The black-and-red laptop boasts a carbon fiber cover, the same high-tech material that Ferrari used in its Formula One race cars. Its strength-to-mass ratio, according to Acer, is eight times stiffer than steel and half the weight of aluminum."
Looking at the manual for the TM4400 (which has a similar chassis) vs. the ferrari 4000 the weight for the latter is lower by about 0.4lb (I think).
