DId i tell you that the 9860 is slower than a pentium m 1.4ghz on battery. NO and did i tell you the fans run max and u barely get 1 hr of battery life wow just for a few seconds faster in rendering which is proably untoice you would rather chose the sager. Honeslty sager is who would ever built pentium 4 even intel said them selves they are going to be put out of prodction soon. Get ready for dual core pentium M! and for the 64 bit thing hahahah it proably wont go mainstream for at least 5..7+ years! HAhaha did i mention that the sonoma is faster than any turion and ais as fast as on amd 64 3400+ in most apps. Truly i love sager as i am thinking of buying my thrid laptop from them but no way is it goign to be a pentium 4. And you may be thinking im a fanboy of intel ahahhaha ur dam wrong i heosnlty hate them! I jsut use pentium m on my notebook becuase it runs the coolest and the fastest. I would chose amd any day! well that what my dekstop runs!

Does this guy even know what he's talking about? You seem to have a big chip on your shoulder from a previous P4 vs PM discussion. I'm happy with what I'm getting

BUt yea even if you are just always goign to be plugged in why not get a desktop and as soon as you unplug that cord its slower than a pentium m 1.4ghz XPs 2 is the way to go honeslty!
But here is the issue, I'm never unplugged and I'm not looking for a thin unit ; so let me reword the question:

Plugged in to a power outlet, in an air conditioned room of 76 degrees, would my Pentiumn M 2.0GHZ be as fast as a Pentiumn 4 3.6GHZ 2MB L2 running Doom 3 or some other high intensity game?

Currently with my Pentiumn M I am getting a ton of slow down on Stronghold 2; not sure if it is CPU or GPU (Geforce 440go). I travel a lot and can't carry a desktop on an airplane and just want a machine I can do my Video/Audit editing and play any game while in a hotel room.

So, if I am going to use the laptop as a desktop, should I go with the P4M 2.0GHZ or P4 3.6GHZ 2MB L2?

onapartyrock,

If you are going to be doing audio and video editting, the more obvious choice is going to be get the Sager. And this is coming from someone who has a XPS G2 on its way. The P4 has already been shown to preform better at audio and video encoding and editting then the current P-M. If you are willing to plunk down the money for the Sager I would recommend it. In the end the Dell will work as well, but for the audio / video power will be a bit weaker. When it comes to gaming....the Dell is the quickest.

So I would recommend the Sager, but it is going to cost a bunch more.

Since your laptop from a year and a half ago can destroy the 9880 3.6 660, then I guess he's saying the NP3880 would ANNIHILATE the NP9880 with the HAND OF GOD.

I am more confused than ever. It looks like the Pentium Mobile is much more "efficient" than the P4; it can compete at a lower speed with a higher speed P4 because of this efficiency.

It causes much less heat and should not experience any throttling, but from many of the reviews on this board I see the P4 can be ran for long periods of time without any throttling until you run it off of a battery.

It looks like that I have to pick my laptop based on the accessories I need... so for the moment, the 9880 looks like the only choice. I really think I am just going to hold off until the dust settles and some users of the 9880 post their expenses. I'm a bit worried about the heat issue since if I am going to spend $5000 on a laptop, it has got to last me three to four years.

I have learned one thing, the P4Mobile and Pentium Mobile are two very different beasts.

You know i'd like to put this in a new thread but ..
Anywayz, i used to read about those long lasting batteries. They work on alcohol or smth(fuel cells), maybe in the futur we can place one of those onto the 9880 ! so we get 5 hours of gaming

Does anybody now any new technology about long lasting power for laptops ? shareee

9880 def.....it just a raw power machine.

Haha

DELL is so over rated! They only offer Pentium M's. HAHAHAHA! Horrible! Sager 9880 blows the XPS2 out of the water. The Sager 9880 is cheaper and performs way better than the XPS2. DELL = The SAGER 9880 is the best choice.....period.
Gateway M680 is a better choice.
Dell was overrated until the XPS2 came out. As far as I'm concerned, Dell has redeemed themselves in a big way by releasing a kick ass combination for mobile gaming. While some people would buy an XPS2 with a P4 CPU, the majority of buyers would choose lower encoding and rendering performance for higher battery life, lower power usage, lower weight/dimensions, and cooler/quieter operation for smokin' game performance.

And blowing the XPS2 out of the water is inaccurate unless you're talking solely about number crunching applications. CamelSpit, do you have a 9880? How much did you pay for it?

I think the 9880 is a great machine and runs neck & neck with the XPS2 for gaming. These lappies each have their place in the world...personal need and preference will dictate which one is the better fit for you

The 9880 weighs about a ton and costs about two tons...

Well

Yes, I own a Sager 9880. I'm a serious gamer, video editor, and multi-tasker. The Dell XPS2 is powerful, but not as powerful as the Sager 9880. You can't even get a P4 with the XPS2. Sure the XPS that lights up is cool, but look at the case design. Not too good. There isn't even a parallel port, dual bay for a second optical drive, and no subwoofer on the bottom. This is my opionion so don't get too upset. Yes, it is nice and powerful. However, the Sager 9880 can be maxed out to the limits for an extreme experience!
