Buying FP 2405FPW vs 2005FPW help!

Can't decide between these 2. I'm not a gamer, would like to be able to watch TV on it. Price is a factor as well. I'm leaning towards 2005FPW.
Best deal is on ebay, NIB $485 shipped. 2405FPW best deal is around $1000.
Does anybody know of any better deals? Is 2005FPW good enough for watching DVDs, Photoshop, CAD work etc? Thanks in advance.

well, one is twice as expensive as the other. 2405 has a WUXGA resolution. I have one, as far as quality goes, it is superb. It's a Samsung panel, just amazing quality. Great colors, and I set it at almost the lowest brightness setting, the thing is amazingly bright. For CAD and Photoshop, more resolution is always best.

That said, I'm not a gamer either, but have watched some video clips on it. You can watch tv on it, but there is no tv tuner built into either of the machines. Also, you need to realize that tv is low resolution, and even DVD is low resolution compared to these two monitors. If you watch it at full screen, be prepared to see jaggies. There's nothing wrong with the monitors, it's just not meant for watching low definition source. You can of course sit further away from the monitors to aleviate the problem.

Go with the 2005fpw...its half the price and since you don't play games the 1680x1050 resolution should do the job. If you really want a bigger screen just buy two 2005fpw and youll still be saving compared to the 2405fpw.

The 2005 is a good monitor, but the 2405 is a GREAT monitor.

Both are lousy screens I hear. Go with a Samsung 213T 700-800. It is the best.

If you are wanting to watch Digital TV then you would want to get the 2405 as the resolution will support HDTV.

The 2005 is a very nice monitor, but... If you have the budget for the 2405 <drools> then go for it.

Heh, that's funny. The 2405 is a Samsung LTM240M1. If you've even seen a 24-inch Samsung LCD before, you'd never call it lousy.

That's so simplistic. The Samsung 2405 is indeed spec for spec better than the 2 year old Samsung 213T.

Thanks for the advice

Is $485 shipped on ebay a descent deal?

Not great. Dell has been selling them for under $400 recently. You just missed a 35%-off coupon that expired two days ago, and you can combine those with the dollar-off coupons.

If you decide to wait, check sites like this regularly:

I have all three monitors: Samsung 213T, Dell 2005FPW and 2405FPW.

All I can say is, the Dell LCDs are better than the Samsung (which I got in 2003). Between the 24" & 20", the 2405FPW is much better in terms of brightness, viewing angles (the 2005FPW has a purplish tint when viewing from the sides), and input options (it has Component, S-Video, DVI and VGA, whereas the 2005FPW has S-Video, DVI and VGA).

The Samsung 213T is much darker by comparison, but it's still a decent monitor if you don't need the S-Video and Component inputs. However, with some Dell promos, you can get the 2405FPW for a very good price.

The 2405FPW is so far the best screen I've used - highly recommended.
