HD RPM for gaming

Is a 4200 RPM HD fast enough to run games from the HD? I use a disc imaging program, so I dont loose any discs. Im horrible with keeping up with stuff. Would 4200RPM be enough to run WC3, SC/BW, MOH:AA from the HD?

yeah, as long as it's a separate drive from the one that has the game installation and the pagefile...i do exactly that, with images and all.

Well... that depends, a 4200rpm 60 gig drive has access times similar to the 5400rpm 40 gig drive... I would trust it to play games well. But, a 4200 rpm 40 gig drive has access times near 75% higher than a 5400 rpm drive... so you have to wait that much long EACH time the drive seeks or writes... I would be cautious of that. If it's a 60 gig drive, go for it (unless Zachquiel has the 40 gig one and he thinks it's fine in practice). Best of luck!

Yes beebs, i use the following configuration, although i move around thep agefile from drive to drive:

40gb 5400rpm drive : Windows install, games installation pagefile.

60gb 4200 rpm drive: Game installations, pagefile (when im not gaming much)

Either way, with 1gb RAM the pagefile doesnt really affects performance, or at least i dont feel it (the only game that HAS filled my RAM is battlefield 1942 ,nothing else, not even 3dsmax or premiere )

How about a 30GB 4200RPM? I'm planning on getting the Dell I4150. Battery life is an issue, thats why Im going with a dell. As well as money. Wondering if the $80 is work plunking down for 5400 40GB
