Comparing consoles to PCs is a true case of comparing apples to oranges in my opinion. They are not created equal and with the same purpose in mind.

Bear in mind that just becasue the PS3 and XBOX 360 have certain specs, it doesn't mean that the games will utilise these assepts 100% from day 1. These game consoles are going to put huge demands on games makers. Furthermore, it doesn't mean that publishers will stop making games for the PC.

PS3's GPU isn't based off the 6800 GPU(nv40) its based off the G70 which equates to 7800GTX(equivalent to ultra now) or at least that's what people speculates, the 6800 isn't capable of producing the graphics they've shown so far.. specially in high def resolutions..

In the other hand, X360's chip will never come out to PC, but you can bet something simillar will come out about 2 generations from now. The X360's chip isn't ATi's its Msoft's. ATi is developing it for them but Msoft owns it.

Both systems are much more powerful than anything currently out for PCs, and I'm willing to bet both of the GPUs would score over 15k in 3dmark05, but you never know.. (Shrugs) PC will catch up to consoles next year and everything will be the same as before. Its undeniable that the console gaming market is expanding while the PC game market shrinks, but we'll have PC gaming for a long time from now.

Have you guys seen the mobo Gigabyte has on the works? It will support 4 PCI-e cards, and they will release a dual 6800GT Card, so buy two of those, and you have 4 GTs running in your machine. Pretty impressive if you ask me..
2GB Vram, and 4 GPUs

I don't really get the point of this thread and the many others that pop up like this. It's kind of light saying "Well yeah, the sun rose this morning, but it's going to drop tonight." Of course today's technology will be overtaken by tomorrow's, sure you can rig up a car battery and an xbox in a backpack and carry around an LCD monitor and be just as portable as an ixps2. When you do, please let me know because I want to take pictures of your idiocy.

I'm not talking about modding the console, I'm talking about modding the game. For example there are dozens of mods for UT2004, one in which I'm a part of, so it really expands the content, playability, and creativity given to owners of the game. On XBox and Playstation you cannot go in there and start modding games and making custom models, maps, textures, characters, enemies, etc. like you can will a full array of PC development tools that I have experience with. When consoles become as flexible as PC's then they may be a real issue, but right now to me they're just boxes you stick discs in and play, nothing more.

Xbox Live might include game mods this gen. but I guess they won't be developed by the community..

I have a bad feeling that to them mod=downloadable content. Same on PS3 if they do something like this.

Must have Both - or is that all - or perhaps all except Nintendo. Gamers - like Games - consoles are consoles and good ones will have titles that are exclusive to that platform for a period of time. If you must play Halo 2 - 3 - etc... day one you will have to pick up a new console. If money is an issue - sure a PC is always going to be a smarter choice since you can MILTI-TASK with it -but if you can afford/want to afford the next gen consoles they make great accessories to your PC.
