enclosure hd probs

I'm not sure if i bought the right enclosure or hard drive, but I have a powered 3.5"/5.25" usb and firewire enclosure i bought from newegg and a 180 gig 7200rpm WD hard drive internal. I hooked everything up, plugged the usb cable into my laptop, and when i ran the formatting software, it couldn't detect the harddrive? Any thoughts??? I've tried CSEL, Master, and Slave and nothing is working. Do i have to use the PCI controller? thanks.

did any documentation accompany your enclosure? if not, i'd call newegg and see what their geeks have to say.

Define "The formatting Software".

DOS Software will not detect drives in external enclosures.
