Sony S460B Battery Life Question

The Sony S460B is the "sale" laptop tomorrow, and I'm actually very interested in buying one. I viewed the test at Best Buy and was extremely impressed with the look, feel, and screen quality. Plus, it has fairly decent specs.

But, what is the battery life for both regular web/word processing use and DVD playback?

I just received mine on Friday so I haven't done much testing. I did use it at work yesterday at a few meetings. With the display dimmed to 1 or 2 (still quite bright) and power savings enabled the battery was showing 3-3.5 hours. That was with my pin modded 1.6GHz (effective 2.1GHz) CPU installed. I've since gone back to the original CPU (1.7). That should bump up battery life a little since I can shave down the processor voltage a bit more (using Centrino Hardware Control). Haven't tried DVD runtime ... I would guess it's in the 2:30 hour range.

So, it gets more than the 1.5-3 expected by the compnay?

Yes, it does. If you play games or are doing some serious CPU intensive work then you can expect much less than 3 hours. Today at work I used it during a meeting (WiFi on and screen dimmed) after an hour there was 2:35 left on the battery.

Duffy, have you had the chance to run any benchmarks yet? Word on a better than advertised battery life is a positive thing...

No, I haven't run any benchmarks. To be honest I don't expect the S4XX to perform any differently than the S380 since they seem to be essentially the same machine. Main difference being the DL drive.
