I just ordered a 9300 with a 60gb hard drive and 512mb with a 128 video card. I was wondering what common problems should i look for and what do i need to do when i get it. this is my first laptop.

as far as problems go... why make it into that big of a deal... enjoy your new toy and if it messes up fix it then... as far as what u should do when u get it a good reformat is always good to clean all the bloat ware off... but and then youd have to reinstall the drivers again... search through the post to see which order to do that

Hopefully you won't have to look for any problems or run into any problems. I would probably reformat since dell puts so much crap on it. Make sure you get the required drivers first, before you reformat.

Leave it alone and enjoy your new toy.
If you have any problems post them here.

reformatting is done with the winxp CD, you delete your partitions, and create new ones, Windows formats them and then installs the OS.. its simple once you know what you're doing..

do you have sparkles on your lcd?
And you can do a memtest if you want, to see if your memory is defective.

I agree, until you feel comfortable don't reformat. There are some important things to remember, 1st., dont reformat until you burn the restore cd. 2nd., don't format until you get the dell discs.

I agree , just enjoy the lappy. WHEN/IF you have a problem, post then. Reformat (meaning setup your rig with a clean slate, in lehmans terms) when you are comfortable with the procedure. (and have XP disc + Drivers cd)
....Its not a "critical" thing to do, Im just stingy when it comes to HD space.

I have never reformated any laptop. I have had 5. I just remove anything that is not needed. I clean the registry afterward. All of the computers have had no major issues.
