Win2k3 on 9xxx

Hi All,

Just ordered 9880 and looking forward to a smokin' laptop.

Has anybody played around with Windows 2003 Server on thier NP 9xxx?

I'll be using this beast for everything and really like the efficiency of 2003 server (converted to workstation with a few tweaks) over XP-Pro, but the video driver (and other drivers) could be a show-stopper, as it was with my current NP-4060.

Any comments welcome, even the "what kind of kook are you?" ones....

did you ever get this installed? Any issues? I am about to install 2003 server on my 9860...

Also I have never installed 2003 what do you mean by converted to workstation?

Concerning you wanting to run 2K3 Server on your notebook.
If you have a Sager/Clevo unit, the drivers that come with it will work no problem. 2K3 is also a lot more efficient than XP/Pro and SP2 installed and is easy to set up as a Desktop system.

tip: make sure you active all the direct 3D tabs in DirectX Diag configuration Panal. Also to make sure you put the hardware accelaration on full AFTER you have installed the 3D Drivers in you desktop resolution settings/display adapter area.

That's the same guide I used when I made reference to "converting to workstation"

...but to answer your question webpez, no I didn't; I'm running XPpro-SP2. I didn't bother with it since everything at the time seemed XP-centric for the 9X0's and didn't have the time. 2003 is the best OS microsoft has; I was impressed when using it before. I believe most everything that runs on XP-SP2"should" run on 2003...but graphics drivers are always one limiter...

Thanks for bringing thread back from dead and if anybody has experience running 2003 Server please give us your feedback.....

I don't know about the 9880 and Windows 2003 server. However, I've installed and run Windows 2003 server (Web, Enterprise and Standard) from a firewire external hard drive on my 4750 without any issues with the drivers. I would assume the same success for you on your unit.
