Dells - Page 3

No need for the anger, man, its just a forum. I know you're biased because you've had a bad situation with tech support, but 35 hours on the phone does seem a bit absurd. To answer the issue at hand, however, Dell is able to ship out decent computers at cheap prices, and for the most part, is able to offer adequate support for every one. That does not mean there will not be issues with a computer, or that tech support will be able to help every individual. My answer is to buy an extended warranty, and hope you're able to fix most of your problems yourself.

While you've clearly had a traumatizing and extremely negative experience with Dell, I highly doubt that the people who own Dells are "idiots."

Dell is a huge corporation like any other and as such they will be subject to defective products, but it is better that you "educate" people with your experience rather than just blatant bashing. We all understand that you hate Dell, that you like to root for the underdog - it's been clearly stated and we all sympathize with you.

35 is a cumaltive number first off
and who said i wasn't an idiot?
And who said that i bought the dells by choice

The dell computers i use were as gifts or just "around"

idiot was a general statement to those who think that dells are superior when they most defiently arn't

I am looking at getting a dell for myself but REALLY don't believe they are superior and wouldn't be looking at at all if there wasn't a 35% coupon dealio

*partially joking with the sarchasim but i think i said 35, 55 i would of just passed out with laughter*

all together she propably spent 35 hours on (not even kidding it was slightly funny for me).
They made her go through all these things just to tell her it was a defaulty hard drive. Then it took 3 days to get the new. It broke again and again.
The later a week ago. Where my mom was on the phone for 20+ hours.
35 and 20 Is 55 dumba$$, read your own tripe before losing your temper and embarrassing yourself even further.

You came here seeking advice for a new laptop and we were all happy to help you.

Now you are misleading people about a company that has served many of us well.

You should be banned from these forums for disrupting the harmony here.

Agreed. Rep for you.

Wow, you simply have no clue what a dumba$$ you are do you? Where did I say it wasn't cumulative? You said your unfortunate mother (I'll leave it to our readers as to the genesis of her misfortune) spent 55 hours on the phone with tech over some harddrives, is that not the case?

And 20 of them just last week? Seriously, can you not even comprehend your own posts? Just out of curiosity, what are you studying? Or do you simply live at home?

Ok people lets keep it civil. I think that to assume that Dell's are the greatest is a fallacy, but given their price range, I think it is becoming more clear that for what you pay, you are getting a REALLY good computer. As an undergrad and now grad student I've really only dealt with Dells in computer labs, and they seem fairly well structured and taken a fair amount of abuse. Of course for higher end users, they are bound to find problems, but again $500 for a decent desktop for non-gamers and alittle more for notebooks with the venerable coupons!

As already mentioned, because Dell is so large, there are bound to be errors and some people are bound to get lemons. But, thats the risk you take with mass production items (same applies with cars, no?)

Thanks for all the replies.

WHO WANTS TO CONTINUE THE TANGO?

pm if you do
what i said

the 20 hours is one of the expierences that contributes to the 35 hours there was no number 55 in my post

and when i said dumb a$$ i am just quoting your own words..you act all offended and saying i should get banned because i use your own words?

And don't mean to mislead because i am soon to buy an xps...
i am sharing my expierence in which i had? for him it is his in his own judgement to see if it matters not?

It can't be misleading cause it actually happened so i guess we'd call that "leading"

And i am sorry to pop your utopian bubble by sharing the expierence i had with dell?

I am sorry if i've offended anyone here with what i have said but i don't believe me sharing an expierence with the company in question is wrong at all? I thought that was the whole point of this forum?

And if i recall one of them was a maxtor and i love maxtor hard drives thats why i have 3 in my desktop comp and have yet to have a prob with them. so my guess you prob had to do with something you did or just bad luck

Debating the quality or value of Dell's over other brands is like opening up the Mac vs. PC debate. Its not going to get anywhere as it just varies too much on personal experience and opinion. Sufficing to say that with a Dell, you get what you pay for...Quality to a point, service that is acceptable for most, and a darn good price.

It may not be everyones cup of tea, but the fact is they sell millions of system every year and not all those consumers are complaining

The people who "hate" Dell Computers are the so called "elitist", not to start any flame wars but it is true, they believe for some unlogical reason that they are better because there computer wasn't built by Dell, which is absolute crap. Dell builts some of the fastest and most powerful computers and are able to offer them at a price up to $1000 less than the competition I guess if spending $1000 more makes you feel like you are an elitist or makes you feel special, then go for it. But anyone here can guarantee you that the Dell owners, Alienware owners, Asus owners, etc know just about as much about computers as each other there is no magical company that you can buy your notebook from that makes you superior in anyway whatsoever.

Bad experiences from Dell? Absolutley, just like any other company, but Dell does have more incidences though purerly because they sell more products, simple as that. Alienware can sell 100 notebooks and have 1 user have a problem, Dell can sell 1000 notebooks and have 10 users have a problem.

Although Dell does lack AMD processors, this is because they have made deals with Intel which allows you to get the same parts for cheaper, for example, a Pentium M notebook from Dell might cost less than a Sager because Dell gets a bonus discount for allowing Intel to be the sole provider.

I get what your saying. But i'm trying at least not to be an elitist i mean i am probably gonna get an xps
post #56 of 73
Well, maybe Dell will at least drive down prices for us all...

Competitors watch cautiously as Dell tinkers with entry-level notebook prices
David Tzeng, Taipei; Rodney Chan, DigiTimes.com [Monday 30 May 2005]

With Dell launching more low-priced notebooks, its major competitors are watching closely to see whether the pricing campaign is a sustained one that may force them to follow suit, Acer chairman JT Wang said yesterday.

Dell launched the campaign last week by first reducing the price for its Inspiron 1200 series to US$529 from US$649. Dell has now lowered the prices for entry-level Inspiron 2200 series notebooks to US$549-US$599 from US$699-799. The price for the entry-level Inspiron 6000 notebook has also been cut to US$649 from US$849.

Wang said if supply for these low-priced Dell notebooks is “unlimited” – meaning the price range for the company’s entry-level notebooks will stay under US$600 – then other vendors may have to follow suit to stay competitive.

As a result, demand for low-priced notebooks will grow, and US$500 notebooks may become a mainstream segment as early as 2006, said Jin Wong, Acer's president of IT product business

Notebook makers in Taiwan said they were surprised at the swiftness of Dell’s pricing campaign.

Well not everyone and I definetly was not trying to attack anyone personally, but to me it seems that alot of anti-Dell people are just self-proclaimed"elitist"

Dell haters are like Bush haters

when confronted with facts, their reasons fall apart. It's hatred based on EMOTION not REALITY.

my 2 cents.

Well i think there is defiently something to be said against dell so don't get to happy...

REALLY? Good to hear! I think I'm gonna give a shot at Dell, then. 'Cause before, I thought there is a 15% restocking fee-it says on the dell site. Or maybe it's only on Dell Canada.
