my 2 cents.
Acutally, dell haters are like Bush SUPPORTERS who will subvert any piece of evidence to favor their argument no matter how false or wrong it is. Further, when confronted with the fallacies in their arguments, they will refuse to admit they were wrong, and either stick with the same wrong argument or make up some other BS to justify their stance.

my 25 cents.

Not to drag politics into this, Its kind of like both, Bush is truly one of those "love him/hate him" presidents

Here's exactly what you said; The hard drive has failed what is it....3 times. The first two time's my mother attempted to fix it. The process of trying to fix it the first two times all together she propably spent 35 hours on (not even kidding it was slightly funny for me).
They made her go through all these things just to tell her it was a defaulty hard drive. Then it took 3 days to get the new. It broke again and again.
The later a week ago. Where my mom was on the phone for 20+ hours.

Unless you simply can't understand what you've said, that is two separate instances which total 55 hours. Have your mom explain what you wrote for you.

and when i said dumb a$$ i am just quoting your own words..you act all offended and saying i should get banned because i use your own words?

Where did I ask that you be banned? As far as any dumba$$edness, I leave that for our gentle readers to decide who wears that appellation best.

And don't mean to mislead because i am soon to buy an xps...
i am sharing my expierence in which i had? for him it is his in his own judgement to see if it matters not?

It can't be misleading cause it actually happened so i guess we'd call that "leading"

And i am sorry to pop your utopian bubble by sharing the expierence i had with dell?

Utopian bubble? What in the name of god are you talking about? If you are referring to my profound disappointment in the American educational system that has produced you, that bubble was popped many, many years ago.

I am sorry if i've offended anyone here with what i have said but i don't believe me sharing an expierence with the company in question is wrong at all? I thought that was the whole point of this forum?

Of course, I accept your apology and would very much like to help you with your problem. Just PM me with the service tag number of the computer in question and I'll verify that you lost three hard drives on that computer through Dell service and then you can prove through phone records the many hours your mom has spent on the phone with Dell service and I'll wager we'll certainly be able to get a very nice concession from Dell for you! Won't that be great?

Hey Guz,

I'm a little confused here, are you trying to get people's opinions of Dell so that you can use this information to evaluate Dell's products because you're looking to buy a new PC/laptop, or are there other motives?

The reason I ask is because your quote above seems like a harsh rebuke against anti-Dellites and you are the original thread starter, which leads me to hypothesize that you're already a Dell supporter and thus am confused about what was the point of this thread.

Hi Propofol.

Thanks for the reply. I am actually trying to get opinions of Dell and anti-Dell folks since I'm in the market for a notebook. That quote was a stupid gesture on my part to mock the individual who was politicizing the thread (also partly fueled by my politics). I actually would like to hear both sides. Although I'm not a Dell suporter, I'm leaning towards buying one just because I've heard good things through this forum and haven't really heard to many negative comments. I totally understand your concern, again that was me being stupid. I would appreciate legitimate criticisms and concerns people have about Dell since that would help me in my decision making process. Thanks.

Hey stlee. Although I may disagree with your political views, I have so far found your notebook assessments to be pretty good. Besides I don't think you are all the rare (he did manage to get reelected )

Thanks for all the input.

The general consensus about Dell computers is very bad, just check out this thread:

Umm... that thread looks split between those that like Dells and those that don't like Dells. And it was locked, always a red flag when trying to make an educated decision about a laptop. If 95% of the posters had agreed with your take on Dell, the thread would have never been closed, it would have just been a love fest between anti-Dell homers talking about why they don't like Dells - that would've been fine. Again, I draw your attention to the closed part of the thread. More than a significant percentage of interested Dell users helped to create that small fireball, so I'm not sure where you're getting the "general consensus about Dell computers is very bad" portion of your statement. Additionally, you started the thread, and being knowledgeable both about laptops and forum tempermant regarding laptops among all members in a thread that ended with a lockout by an AW mod only makes the claim more questionable - I hereby give you a loving slap with a wet noodle and this beratement: You oughta know better.

Guz, I love my Dell, I hate having to call India when I do have an issue or need to make a phone purchase, but it's lovely, the WUXGA screen is brilliant, and last years MR9800 is running very smooth. No problems. here.

Hey Guz,
Thanks for clearing that up. With that said, I'll chime in a little bit about Dell.

I currently have a Dell Inspiron 8100 desktop, 2 AW desktops, and enroute to a Sager 9880 DTR in my sig. So, I've pretty much had a good amount of experience with the above 3 companies. But since it's a Dell thread, I'll only talk about Dell.

Back then when I had my 8100, I was relatively new to computers, so all the boatware software programs they pre-installed were tremendously helpful to me. The customer service back then (approx. 4-5 years ago) was atrocious. It was atrocious to me because of the extremely long phone wait times, the constant re-routing to the wrong departments, and tech support with heavy accents that I had problems understanding.

Other than that, I thought that all of the employees were very courteous and professional, and all of my problems were resolved eventually, albeit in a few days' time, which to me is unacceptable for anybody who does not have the time to wait for hours on the phone and having to call subsequent days because certain supervisors/specialists were not present at the time.

To Dell's credit, my 8100 is still holding up after all these years without any major problems encountered.

I find Dell's service to be fairly good, their product quality acceptable, and their customer phone support system very poor.

Would I still recommend a Dell to my friends and family? The answer is yes, and it's dependent on how tech savvy they are. For instance, I recently purchased a 6000 for my older brother, because he is absolutely clueless about computers and I think that Dell suited him perfectly.

Dell had a home care warranty program that was perfect for him, the price of any Dell systems is unmatched by any other company (price, to me is the strongest point favoring Dell over others), and he's not as picky as me about screen quality.

So, he is absolutely ecstatic about his new laptop and think it's the greatest one in the world. That is until he sees my new 9880 coming up................

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'm pretty much settling on going for a Dell. Hopefully I won't have to deal the customer service or I won't get a lemon.

Again, thanks!!!
