It's probably done at a bios/firmware level. I've seen Compaq/HP do that before.

Seablade PS That particular cooling system SUCKED and that laptop overheated a lot. But mainly things like thermal sensors and cooling come down to the ODM, not nessecarily the name on the laptop, they are just the people that warranty it ![]() |

The intake and exhaust ports and the single fan were all in one corner of the laptop, and not really close to either the CPU or the video so it really wasnt doing a lot of good. Even with a seperate fan on the bottom of the notebook(Both Targus and Antec) it still overheated.
The sensor support may have been cruddy, but the cooling system was a much larger problem. Seablade |

Ummmmm speaking as a Compaq/HP certified repair tech, I can say for a fact that mine were not improperly installed. They all but recalled that series of machines. HP has since cleaned up thier act somewhat. I'm not bashing them at all. Hell they paid alot of my sallary. My company purchased HP/Compaq exclusively until that round of crap hit the streets. Hp replaced 8 of the 8 laptops we purchased from them twice. I replaced mine with my current Sager.
