I'll be using my laptop as a general desktop replacement for the most part and I play a lot of games (not great at gaming but I get by), move huge 600mb to 4gig ISO files from laptop to remote fileserver on a regular basis, image editing and compiling so I got the 72k drive. Would a 54k drive have worked?? Very likely yes. I simply choose it to add that small bit of extra performance I'll get.

If you play games occasionally along with email, web browsing, listen/rip music no. It'll not really help much so its wasting your money. Buy an extra 9-cell, bluetooth, wireless router etc instead

I agree with boo boo If you dont need the 72k I'd go with the 100Gig 54k drive for more space. If you have (or will have) a lot of data then going with the larger 54k drive would likely be a better solution for you.
