I'm curious how the screen compares to the 7700m's.

EDIT: I see you own the XPS. Is the XPS screen the same one on the upgraded 9300's?
Ah Man, you're "availingfaith" over from the AW forum. Boy, I hope the i9300 works out for you. The screens are much better now, or there seem to be a lot less people complaining about them these days. I think it may have been a bad batch at the beginning.

You; of all people, don't need to get messed around by that. Read your whole story the other day. You have some patience..... I know you'll love the i9300 and hope you get a great screen.

P.s The Uxga screen on the XPS G2 and the i9300 are the same, they're either from Lg or Samsung.

Thanks man. I got it today and am reformating it now. I had some errors on the first try. Been working with Dell techs. I know some people have had horror stories with tech but the guys I've gotten are superb! I've actually been called back twice during the process just to check on how I was doing. After the error, he said if the next try didnt work, he'd mail me out a brand new xp only disk.

I'm still very much looking forward to my AW Aurora due in this week too but the service I've gotten from Dell thus far is a 180 difference.

As far as the screen goes, I havnt had much time to mess with it as I've been reformating ever since I got it. I will say first impressions are it's not nearly as nice as the screen on the AW 7700m. But it's not bad either. The whites dont seem as crisp. There are no dead pixels and only a small light leakage on the bottom. I'll post a full review when I get it all setup.

So, what you do is pretty simple. You go to this thread and find out what screen you have…..http://notebookforums.com/showpost.p...03&postcount=6

If you have a Samsung then go to this tread…..http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...&highlight=lcd

I found this brilliant. If you have an Lg the same thread will sort you out.

I got a Samsung and am really happy. I have a little bit of Leakage, but nothing noticeable and I heard that it goes after a while, or that’s what everyone says. To tell you the truth, I didn’t even know what Leakage was until I came to this forum.

No dead pixels - you’re laughing.

Dell support is unreal. I had one problem within a “chat Support”,; I got cut off;, my fault. But the support, and back up after this I got was unreal. I got coupons etc etc. I mean they treat you so good it’s embarrassing. I have phoned once for tech support, and after a menu system..... got a human after 3 rings. This woman was so good and so friendly it literally made my afternoon. I actually sat back and said out loud, “Thank God I got a Dell.”

No luck on the second reformat so my laptop is dead till the xp cd's get here. Said 2-3 days. Part that blew me away was when he said they would track when the cd's got to me and call me back to finish the process once I got them. Un-f'n-believable.

You won't see it on that. Here:

3. Registry:
Run the registry editor, if you don't know how (For Windows XP):
(i) Click Start
(ii) Select run
(iii) In the presented field, type "regedit" without the quotation marks and click OK
(iv) Look under the following field using the + extensions on the left:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY
(v) Hopefully you will see one of the following codes:
=> One with SEC will be the Samsung brand (such as the SEC3150 WSXGA Display)

Otherwise, Fn Key - and Arrow Up / Down key for brightness. If you have 7 levels of brightness; it's an Lg. If you have 8 levels of brightness, its a Samsung.

Have to wait till I get the disks......and I was so close!

wow availing, you really deserve this all working out for you. its good to see good things about support. things like that dont always stand out in a forum like this. seems overwhelming in the other direction sometimes. there are a lot of people that post good things though. have you found out what screen you have yet? I want to see some pics of your XPS-G2. (pls send me a link when you post up a review)
Aurora - buddy you crack me up. I cant figure you out. Sometimes its like your gunning for me and other times rooting for me.

I didnt get the XPS. I couldnt afford it. I got the 9300 since all the money I had went into my Aurora. I already mentioned that the 7700m's screen was way better than the 9300's. I dont really think my 9300 is even on the same level as the 7700m I had performance wise so I dont really want to compare all that. Plus I havnt done anything with the 9300 yet. I got stuck reformating.(So I cant even check which display I have) My main gaming rig will be my Aurora though. It;s going to be hard to beat the 3dmark score I go on my 7700m with this rig. It was 5,300 with no OC. (00=I dont remeber exactly but it was 5,3??).

Right, didn't read the last part. Jeez, you don't have much luck with Lappys do you.

You think that is good service. You wanna search some of the support threads on this forum, that is the XPS G2 / i9300 forum. Some of the stories are unbelivable.....Heres one I read a couple of days ago and I could find easily;

I called Dell tech support 2 days ago for my i8200. The processor fan was making noise. He told me not only are they going to replace the fan but they will also replace the processor just in case (because it was running sooo hot). Then the tech asked me if there were any other issues with the machine and I informed him of a stress crack on the top cover by hinge and the LCD is scuffed from the keyboard. So he informed me that they will be sending a new LCD and top cover along with the new fan and processor. Tech arrived yesterday and installed everything in my home.

If you so much as mention this via email to them, your 3 day delay with disc etc, I don't even want to know what they are going to do for you. You want to write to customer service, no kidding.

Even better, send them the link to your last experience. Then you'll find out what Dell support is like first hand.

I called customer service and she told me I have an LG screen. I'm not sure which one is considered better. I did see a side by side comparison and the LG looked brighter and the whites looked whiter. But the flesh tones seemed off. I asked out of sheer curiosity if I could sawp out for the Samsung if I wanted and she said I could. Nice eh?

Check it out...

Hey guys, don't bash Alienware just because they suck.

Well the problem with AW owners are, they feel they have something to proove. They order a "Custom" built PC made with generic oem parts (Asus etc). Slap a custom BIOS picture on boot screen and bam it make sit worth 4 times what you could build it yourself. Most AW owners learn this overtime then feel they have to justify their purchase by bashing every other pc out their.

The fact that they are just to stupid to slap a pc together and make it work or cant load windows has got me puzzled.

They then try to justfy a 200 point inspection or benchamrking and tweaking. That is a joke, that is AW's way to buy time. They make you pay fo rthe machine up front collect some interest on your cash while you wait for them to order the parts for your PC. They have low overhead by just ordering parts after one is purchased. Have them shipped ground from Asus in taiwan to save shipping, so thats three weeks ona cargo ship to the USA. Well unless they have some RMA'd parts then they just use those (like the cdrw drive in my brand new 7700 I had).

Don't get me wrong, I like a neat looking case. But I am not going to pay an extra 1500-2000 over what i could order the same internal parts for from newegg.

I am sure their are some decent AW people over in their forums, but everyone i have tried to have a decent conversation with just ends up showing their ass and true colors. No matter how sensative to their shortcomings I am.

Boy am I glad I can say negative things about Dell, Sony, Gateway, Fujitsu, HP/Compaq, Asus, Acer, and others all I want. But I can't say a single thing about Alienware that might be negative, nope. Then it's automatic bashing and makes me heavily biased and the forum automatically is biased against Alienware if I'm not silenced and the thread not deleted.

Sony Sucks.

I'm glad I can say that about Sony without anyone going crazy about it. Too bad Alienware can't take the same negative comments in stride that Sony tolerates from all those FS series owners with the bad fans. Sony is a respectable company, I like them now. They don't let negative comments bring them down like some other company does. Dell is just like Sony, but replace the FS fan with the screen fiasco and the same situation happens. I don't even want to know what that other company would do if something was wrong with their machines across the board.
Hay, wait a minuite you swine!!!! Sony rocks!!!

Boy oh boy, you made me so mad i could just give you neg feedback or something devious like that!!! Now you are out of the red you were in before.

Dragon_Myr, whats the point. you can bash whatever you want, if thats how you want to be. If you bash Dell in this forum you would be considered the same type of troll that bashes Alienware in the AW forums. we have stopped all brand bashing in each forum when we can, Alienware bashing and Dell bashing, etc. its just that the Alienware forum attracts more trolls than any other forum and its more obvious because the spotlight is on Alienware . Its even more obvious when your involved with it yourself. Its all an effort to have good, active forums where owners of all brands like to hang out and share information. also, I notice that you confuse a person having a complaint with their machine as the same thing as a person that is trolling a forum. as an example, your comment about Sony, that type of comment does not belong in the Sony forums. Is that a valid complaint if it comes from someone that owns a Dell? sonicwind's post seems fine but it doesnt belong in the AW forums. Keep up the nice posts, its a pleasure to have you at NBF.
I'm an ex-Sony GRZ owner replacing with a Dell. I've already leveled my fair share of stuff against the XPS2 LCD and crashing, and the GRZ for overheating (not that either of them were bad machines). I'm only trying to make a point about what I see when it comes to comments/complaints/problems across the brands, not directly attack any system in particular or compare them.
I am both a AW customer and a Dell customer> For one thing the guys at the alienware forums in NBF are some of the nicest guys I have had the pleasure to deal with. I bought a Alienware sentia ,which was the worst experience ive ever had, but I have to tell you the Sentia i finally got is an amazing computer. I got it for a hell of a price as well.
As for my xps gen2 well, its my 2nd dell and I will say it is the best gaming laptop ever.
As for alienware. The service sucks, the company sucks, but for the computer i bought ,Dell couldnt stand a chance. The 700m which was what i was putting it up to well didnt cut it. But I will never buy another Alienware again due to the fact that the company is a pain the ass.
The alienware people, well at least the Sentia people are the greatest!!! The picture below was made by a Sentia forum member and I didnt even ask for it he made it out of pure kindness. Just emailed it to me one day.
Regardless the company sucks. Not the people who buy them.
Yellosi.

Your example of your Sony experience and your Dell experience is not the same as your wanting to make negative posts to a forum. This type of thing happens in all forums and I just wonder why a person would want to post negative comments about a system they don't own. I can also give an example of a Dell owner that bought Alienware. then comes to the Dell forum to post negative things about Dell. That person was marked as a troll instantly. so not all cases of ownership exclude a person from being branded a troll. Its not an easy arguement untill your the one thats bothered by the troll and it disrupts your forum and you see it drive people away from getting a system that they are looking for information about. thanks for the opportunity to discuss troll, again. seems like a hot topic.
