DVD Burner Will not recognize CD

I have a DVD burner (Toshiba) and a CD R drive on my computer.
The DVD will not recognize a CD,any type,ie,CDR-CDRW or any other. It will work with a DVD, DVDR and DVDRW.

The other drive works OK ,will play and copy CD's and play DVD.

Hardware profile shows the DVD burner is OK.The "info" in Nero indicates that it is OK..I have run out of ideas,it will not recognize a CD.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Try going to www.rpc1.org for www.crdinfo.com and looking for your specific firmware revision for your drive. Reflash it with the newer one and try again. If it's the same still reflash. Toshiba drives have a high failure rate, I went thru 3 in my 5205-S703 so have patience

same problem....

I have a similar problem with my toshiba dvd drive also on my 9860. It can play audio cds, data cds, and commercial dvds fine, but not home made dvds. It is not like the dvds that I made are not done properly as they play fine in other laptops and dvd players. Do you guys have any idea why the drive is soo picky about home made dvds? It doesn't play commericial dvd backups either. If I want to send just the dvd drive back to sager or pctorque, how would I get the drive out of the laptop? I have tried to find screws, but to no avail.

Thanks....

I suspect that the "Home Grown" DVD's are marked incorrectly after they have been burned. This happens for different types of media - ProoDisc, I think was one of them. Run the media against DVDInfo Pro and see what the Media Type and Book settings are. I suspect that one will say DVD-R and the other something like DVD-RW.

To send back Drive,I contacted Sagersupport and they sent an RMA via Email that day.
I sent in the drive and they replaced it and I had the new on in 5 days.Pretty good service I would say.
I never tried any "homemade" dvd's.But did copy a bunch of mappinng files to a DVD from CD's.That worked OK.My only trouble was it wouldn't recognize CD's
I out in the boonies and using my cell phone as a modem, can't stay on too long.
Email me if someone don't come up with help on the removal of drive.
