No More Cheap Overclock? Dell says 1.6 533FSB now

Thread Starter
So I was talking with reaver about the cheap processor upgrade mod that took the P M processors and upped their FSB to get a much better clock speed. To be more specific a 400 to 533 increase.

So when I was checking the Dell website today, I noticed that now all processors are advertised or written...whatever.... at 533 FSB. Is this an error or did they alter something and not tell anyone?

How does this affect people who are now purchasing a 9300 and wanted to do the cheap overclock?

Here is the link : 533 FSB

Look under the processor selection section.

I believe they were always 533FSB on Dells site, someone just posted the guide that said you could buy a 400FSB and pin mod it to 533FSB. But I might be wrong? When I got my 9300 it stated 533 on the specs.

Can you only pinmod the 1.6? Does anyone have the link for the guide?

Here ya go I think the 1.8 is the highest someone has tried in pin modding but its a 50/50 chance with it most success is with the 1.6 and 1.7.

i think someone here has successfully pinmodded the 1.86 so thatd be the 735 processor i believe... most people who have done this have pinmodded the 1.6 725 400 fsb which isnt the one that comes with dell so youd have to buy one off ebay or somethin to pinmod it

heres a link to pics and a description of how to pinmod

The highest someone has OC'd is LucidChaos, he is running a 755 stable @ 2.53GHz. The 9300 has always had 533MHz FSB, that is the entire point of buying a 400MHz FSB CPU, since the multiplier stays the same regardless of the FSB. And a PM 1.8GHz 400MHz FSB is a 745.

The idea of pin-moding makes me want to negotiate a barebone Samsung X50 even more. Lets hope my contacts can wangle a premium barebone system.

Dell has always sold the 533MHZ FSB processors with the i9300...you misunderstand pin modding my friend, read the huge thread on it.
