Integrated NIC not working since I started using Port Replicator

I have a Precision M70 with an integrated network card. This used to work and I was able to connect to my router by just plugging the network cable into the back of my laptop.

I've recently bought a D-Port Port Replicator and now plug the network cable into the back of the D-Port. Then when my laptop is docked I'm connected to the network through the D-Port and everything works fine. However occassionaly I still need to plug a network cable into the back of my laptop when I'm not docked and this dosn't work anymore. In the Network Connections screen my "Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller" is listed as disabled when I'm undocked. Trying to enable it gives the error message "Windows was not able to enable this device." It's enabled in the BIOS (Integrated NIC and MiniPCI Status are both Enabled) and my Wireless NIC still works fine (both docked and undocked).

Anyone have any ideas. I'm tearing my hair out with this one.

Cheers,
Phil.

Look at your network adapters in the Device Manager and review its device status and make sure that it is working properly.

I've already looked at the Device Manager. The Icon for "Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller" has a little red cross over it. The properties dialog shows a device status of "This device is Disabled. (Code 22) Click Enable Device to enable this device." The Device usage combo box is set to "Use this device (enable)"

Trying the obvious an clicking the "Enable Device" button gives the error message "Windows was not able to enable this device."

Any other suggestions?

Cheers,
Phil.

I haven't worked with the "D-Port Port Replicator", but you can download the 57xx driver from Dell's download page and uninstall/reinstall the driver to get it working.

When the computer starts up use the Ctrl+Alt+D command and test the nic, FYI if it doesnt light up when the CAT 5 cable is in and connected it is broken.
