6800 ultra card now available - Page 2

It's the ALX systems...

But those things would almost beat a 2005 Honda Interceptor's monthly payments with the way I config them....

EDIT: Now I'm researching processors more closely. So far I'm seeing that the AMD Athlon FX processors are the best? Can anyone post more beneficial articles that include comparisons between processors and which ones are better? I've never had an AMD processor, but from what I'm reading.. They are better than any Intel Pentium processor out on the market.

Thanks guys, I'm still never going to buy a notebook unless it's Alienware, I am just now thinking about holding off until Alienware upgrades its processors to include something other than the P4.

If half of you guys read my post correctly, I clearly stated that the $220 for the ULTRA and the MoBo/AC/Labor on warranty sounded too good to be true.

I will not divulge the identity of any Alienware rep I speak of out of ethical and legal reasons. For those of you asking me the reps name, why would I give that up? So a bunch of people can bug the guy to death. I may have got lip service but other then a few bad apples over at AW, they are proving to me I made the right choice and I will stick with them. So far I have never had such a good experience owning a lappy. About a month ago I was scathing, AW is proving me wrong and I love it.

As far as speed, the very fact that the D900t Clevo can now support the ULTRA and the intel 670 (3.6Ghz 2Mb L2), IT IS unquestionably the fastest gaming notebook in the world.

In reality, the XPS 2 does NOT suck. Its butt ugly in my opinion, but its not nearly the complete machine the Clevo D900t is. The Clevo is a MOBILE DESKTOP, the battery in the CLEVO is nothing more then a UPS. Who cares that the XPS 2 is lighter and has disco lights all over it. If you want a real DTR that brings definition to the name, the Clevo based lappies are the answer...

Ahhhhhhhhh its nice to own a 7700/D900t right now...

Hey Alucard,

You're doing the smart thing by holding off and doing some more research. I'm relatively new to laptops myself since all I've owned thus far are desktops.

But back in November or so, I came this close to purchasing a Dell XPS1, until I heard about PCI-E, the upcoming Sager 9860 with PCI-E, then AW 7700, Falcon NW, Voodoo Envy m70, etc....It took me months of research and coming onto this forum and reading article after article, and user opinions after user opinions of all laptop brands and models until I decided on a Sager 9880.

So, yeah, do some more research and I'm sure you'll find what suits you best. Remember, there really isn't any one "best" laptop for every person. The "best" laptop is always the one that suits the indivual most.

Peace.

I read it correctly. I just figured I'd wait to see what AW decided to do since their story seems to change with the weather.

Thanks for the post - I will sit back and wait and see what comes of the upgrade. Sounds like AW is still trying to figure out what will be covered under the maintenance contract and what will be an "extra." Even then, I'm nervous about sending my lappy back to the Mothership.

Yeah, very few voices on here I'd trust. I'm old enough that when the wind blows the other direction my dick doesn't get hard like others who seem to post here.

The only difference between the go6800 and the go6800Ultra is the clock speed. Both have the capability to use GDDR3 memory and all the other fancy stuff.

alucard,

u will find these articles useful in comparing desktop cpus:

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041220/index.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041221/index.html

the second article has benchmarks while the first is more of a history lesson.

here are comparison articles of the pm vs p4:

http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/articl...5&pagenumber=1

hope these help

Besides HULK posting direct facts and articles... This guy makes the most sense to me on here.

Alright then...

Been researching a lot and looking at all the benchmarks and I've come to this conclusion:

Each processor has strengths and weaknesses...

P4s are power hungry and inefficient, but when it comes down to it they run base applications a bit faster and audio/video encoding is supreme. I think in the future Intel will work off of the M series rather than the P4 (thus why they cancelled their 4 GHZ processors) cause P4s basically suck for everything except video/audio performance, which can be somewhat altered with superior video/audio cards.

P4: Higher Clock Speed - Less Efficiency = Lower Gaming Performance, Exceptional Audio/Video

P-M's are efficient and continously keep data flowing. They are much better for gaming, but their clock speed is still slower than P4s making their general application performance slower. In the future, P-M's should continue to improve in efficiency and performance and make way for Intel's future designs.

PM: Lower Clock Speed - More Efficiency = Better Gaming Performance, Lower Audio/Video

AMD Athlon FX processors are best all around. They're a higher clock speeded PM processor the way that I look at it. They perform exceptionally higher than any Intel/Pentium CPU on games and their performance with general applications is not far below that of P4 to even take into consideration as a downfall. The only problem is that the current models they offer for notebook PCs are not like their desktop PCs and are a bit less optimized for performance that was compared in the benchmark charts that I examined.

AMD Athlon FX: High Clock Speed + Decent Efficiency = Best Gaming Processor, Awesome Audio/Video

Final Conclusion: There is no ultimate processor... For a notebook. Which is what all of our computers on here should be based on considering it's a notebook forum. The P4 lacks gaming performance, yet excels at audio/video; the P-M is efficient, less power hungry, and performs better with games. The AMD Athlon FX processors are awesome, but the processors for notebooks lack... Once Alienware starts making AMD Athlon FX Alieware 7800 (7700 would be previous version), it should be interesting to see their performance.

Thus, I have re-evaluated my order and decided to... KEEP my Alienware 7700 mobile desktop based on the following:

-I have upgraded to Ultra (already called about it)
-I had savings of $700 mail-in, $99 free shipping (mail-in), free backpack ($116 dollars instant rebate) = $915 dollars off my system

Based upon the savings and deciding to upgrade to Ultra. I am completely content with my Alienware configuration and system as long as it arrives and works well.

I'd like to thank everyone for the helpful articles information, which led to more helpful articles, which led to me wanting the Ultra upgrade, which led to me understanding pros/cons of different processors, which led me to keep my system.

It's an investment...

Alienware is the BMW of computers (some of you might say Mercedes, but I like BMWs). And like all investments, you don't want to end up with something that is supposed to be high quality, but actually is a piece of crap.

And like everyone in life, everyone is always wanting something bigger and better... If you have a neighbor (I don't since I live on 23.0 acres), I'm sure you go over sometimes and check out their house and are like... "Ahh... Nice TV, 23" HD RCA. I have a 60" HD Sony with two subwoofers and 4 spears around the sides. How good is your satelite reception again?" It's a natural thing for people to be competitive with what they own...

So some people are more serious than others when it comes to having bigger, better, higher quality technology. Just how the world works sometimes...

Well said.

Grats on your new rig. I'm envious about the ultra!

So let me show off a little bit here
I just ordered a Pentium 4 670 from ZZF. Is it something that I can be proud of?
