Newegg Ultimate Gaming Rig

Thread Starter
This should probably go in the OT Desktop forum, but this gets much more traffic, so I'll just ask here.

A few weeks ago I got an email from newegg.com advertising an AMD64 gaming rig (it was something like an AMD64 3500+, 256mb nVidia 6800, 1GB - 2x512 RAM, and I think a 300GB HD. There was other stuff too, like the case, etc.). I was really interested in getting the system or something similar, but I accidentally deleted the email. It was fine for awhile because they had it advertised in a banner ad on their website - the end page for which I bookmarked. But I had a problem with Firefox and lost all of my bookmarks and now I can't get back to that page.

I tried calling newegg... the lackey on the other end of the line didn't even seem to know what I was talking about and said he didn't know how to go about looking it up (you'd think they'd keep records of their promotions/newsletters). I also emailed them about a week ago (twice) and have gotten no response.

Just this past week newegg sent out another system that is similar, just with a P4 set-up instead of AMD64 (which also raises the price by liek 200-300 dollars). Obviously for price and performance I am more interested in the AMD64. Here is the link the Intel system from my email: http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/...sp?submit=view

By the way, the AMD was very similar and a build-it-yourselfer like the P4.

Hopefully someone still has the email or the link. If you do, please post the link here or PM me if the link is down so I can give you my email address and you can foward the email to me (the original email had all of the parts specs, so I don't even need the page, just that really).

Thanks in advance and sorry about the slightly off topic off topic post

Nah... I have an ASUS S5N for class, etc. This desktop will be the alternative to any other forms of in-home entertainment (TV, DVD player, Stereo, etc). I'm going to get it and the Dell 24" LCD. I decided that if/when I have free time I'd much rather game than watch TV, so I'm not even going to have a TV in my apartment. And if I want to watch DVDs well... there's always the 24" LCD and the DVD drive in the desktop .

Apparently the link does not work unless activated from the email I have.. anyway here is what the P4 system has:

THERMALTAKE Tsunami VA3000BWA Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail $106.00

ASUS P5AD2-E Premium Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 925XE ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $229.00

Logitech MX518 931352-0403 2-Tone 8 Buttons 1x Wheel USB + PS/2 Optical Mouse - Retail $41.00 (Obviously I wouldn't get this as I have like 5 mice already)

Antec TRUE550 EPS12V EPS12V 550W Power Supply - Retail $123.00

intel Pentium 4 560J Prescott 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Processor Model BX80547PG3600EJ - Retail $407.99

eVGA 256-P2-N377-AX Geforce 6800Ultra 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card - Retail $519.00

CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail $183.00

Then there must be like a 300GB 7200 rpm HDD in there for roughly $170 because the systems total cost advertised in the email is like $1774. Though when you link through to the shopping cart, it is less and there is no HDD and RAM. (I added the RAM here because they had a picture of it in the email).

The AMD system, like I said, was very similar, but with, I believe, an ASUS AMD Mobo and the AMD64 3500+ (socket 939). It was $1539 I believe... for the entire setup.

Hey, ilC, was it this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883102627
As soon as you said A64 3500+ and Geforce 6800 GT, the only one that I could think of that newegg sold pre-built like that was the ABS system.

I saw that... It is very similar to that, but it was a parts-only do-it-yourself system. Very similar, like I said, but the do-it-yourself one was slightly cheaper and had a bigger HDD and I think higher quality memory.

EDIT: BTW I am thinking of going with that ABS system because I can build it myself for only like $100 less and it is a pretty complete system for the money. Takes the work out of having to build it (would be my first system all on my own) and the guess work out of configing it. Also it comes with warranty/service.

Not to bad for the price but I think that it could be parted out cheaper. I would like the ASUS http://www.asus.com/products/mb/sock...d/overview.htm

The parts-only one had that Mobo I believe.

And where might the link be and what was the price?

Sorry for the double reply, but I just noticed the GPU on that ABS system is AGP... deal breaker.

Old Tech what are you going to do?

Bah. I don't know. Can anyone suggest a killer gaming rig for ~$1500.

I'll do pre-configured or do-it-yourself (though pre-config may be the way to go for the warranty/support).

I'll also do either ATI or nVidia, I just definetly want AMD over Intel.

Other specs: 256MB PCI-E GPU (probably x800 or 6800), 1GB RAM min., and 160GB HDD min.

I think when you buy parts separately, you still get a warranty. Just that the warranty is from all of the different companies, and you would have to deal with each individual one if something goes wrong, then say just 1 builder like ABS for a pre-built system. Personally, I like to build my own desktops because it is so much cheaper that way. I think I was able to config an SLI system with 2 6800 GTs at newegg for around 1500-1700. Too bad I don't have the money or need for a new desktop right now.

Can you post that config here? Thanks

Here is the config:
It is just the tower, but from your previous posts, it doesn't seem like you are looking for the monitor or mouse or keyboard.
