For 80+% of people the inspiron 1200 with 512megs of ram works perfectly for them.

1. While I think Clevo has a lot of fine ideas for notebooks, I personally think they as a company lack finese. I see it as, they have offered dual HDD, whereas no other notebook manufacturer offers it. Sure you can add a PCMCIA drive, an external, or maybe swap your battery for a HDD. No other company offers dual drives though. The reason I say they have no finese is, well since you have 2 drives, maybe when you are on battery you should have the option to turn one of them off (not an option with RAID). This would save a lot of battery life as far as HDD usage goes (which maybe negligable anyway, but I dont have any facts and figure.) The next think is with SLI, who says when you are on battery the 2nd GPU even has to be on. It could automatically shutoff when you unplug it to save battery consumption. Factor in a Pentium-M and I bet the battery life EVEN with the 19" display would be as good as a current Clevo clone with a P-4.

2. Where did you get those facts and figures? If you cannot provide a link supporting those then I will just assume you made them up and I will not answer anything in that part. You know 87% of all figures are made up on site.

On a side note, I REALLY need a job designing laptops. I got all the GREAT (in my opinion atleast) ideas floating around about possible models and options. Here is a good one. Why not make a notebook like the i9300 or iXPS2 with a go6800. Then use a motherboard with onboard video. I would LOVE this. Integrated graphics is more than enough to watch a DVD and use for casual uses. On the notebook I am on right now I get 3 hours battery life fairly easily, just think if the i9300 had that. Even if you had to powerdown to switch to the other display adapter it might easily mean double the battery life on the same battery. I know I never wanna game on battery power, so I would prefer more life.

Don't be idiotic. Santa Rosa is expected a year after Napa is launched and we'll see 7-12 months before Napa is launched. Maybe for XPS G4 not for G3.

Tottuu I don't think that is idiotic at all! Napa will released in January 2006, baring any problems. Seeing how Intel is moving faster then expected, they might even officaly realease Napa in December 2005, and start volume shipping in January.

You guys belive what you want, Intel will be bringing the Santa Rosa Centrino Platform alot sooner then you think. You will see it in Q4 2006, for the reason Yonah, and the whole Napa platform is not going to support 64-bit in any way. Intel has bumped up their plans to bring Santa Rosa and 64-bit computing to their mobile line up. Intel's 65nm process is ahead of schedule and healthier then thought to be at this stage in the game. Its still a year and a half till Q4 2006, and I belive Intel will have something of this magnatude around that time.

XPS Gen2 is still on the top of the market. Until Dell begins to lose marketshare due to new competitors' models, XPS Gen3 is a long time coming, so I'd say late 2006 at the earliest.

XPS Gen 3
Next Generation Pentium M/dual core option
Windows XP Pro64, or Longhorn
Full keyboard and numpad (Backlit)
Touchpad and eraserhead
17inch screen(either redesigned samsung/LG, or a completely new product)
256MB graphics(ATI/NVIDIA) standard, 512 optional
4gb DDR2 RAM
DVD Burner standard(Possible supermulti drive)/Blu-ray or HD DVD optional
7in1 card reader
100GB standard HDD optional 300(Media bay optional HDD 300)
Onboard audio standard(Creative Audigy 3 internal optional)
Wireless N and Bluetooth
More LED's
Webcam at the top of the screen(able to be rotated to capture photos or video as well.
High capacity battery(Perhaps Tesla's idea of free electricity will catch on, generators so powerful, wireless electricity abounds, powering notebooks) Maybe not.

IMHO, I think it will be sooner than later that Dell will start to lose the market - as soon as the Clevo with the AMD X2 hits the market, people will be going WTF, especially if Clevo bundles the Ultra and glossy WUXGA screen with it, like they have with the 9880. Checkout notebookreview.com and the Taiwan notebook show. Interesting...

PS: This and next year will be the most interesting in terms of notebook technology just because of dual cores, 64 and the ever faster GPUs. Pity about the battery technology though, seems to be stuck in the Y2k...
