Need HELP ASAP! (Purchase Decision)

Thread Starter
This is about a Desktop, so I'll throw it in the OT section. I'd have put it in the Desktop section of OT, but lets be honest - it'd never get read.

If some of you read my other post today (on the newegg gaming rig) you know I am in the market for a Desktop PC soon. I was looking at something with roughly an AMD64 3500+ (939), 6800 or x800/x850 GPU, 1GB of RAM, good sound, and at least 160GB HDD. My upper end budget is ~ 1500.

I was pretty much set on an AMD64, but I just saw this system for $954 from Dell's Outlet store:

Dimension XPS Generation 4 Desktop: Pentium 4 Processor 640 with HT Technology (3.20GHz, 800 FSB, 2MB cache)
Microsoft Windows XP Home
System Price $1,154.00
Promotion Discount ($200.00)
Discounted Price $954.00

Dell recommends Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home
Memory: 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz (2 DIMMs)
Floppy Drive: 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive
Hard Disk Drive: 250 GB EIDE SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
Video: 256MB Nvidia GeForce 6800 Graphics Card
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (D) Card w/Dolby 5.1, IEEE 1394 capability
DVD Drive: 16x DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability

What do you think for the price? Should I jump on it or wait and build an AMD64 system?

Thanks.

Sounds like a pretty good deal...

I have been planning on building a shuttle system through NewEgg, which would be an AMD 64 3000+, 128MB ATi 6600 GT, 160GB hard drive, 16x DVD burner, and it comes out at around $1,100.

So I'd say that desktop is a better deal than you could get builing your own.
