A poll, which mice you guys prefer for gaming.

518 all the way. You can switch dpi resolution on fly by buttons on the mouse. You dont have to do it through software like the razor. Plus their are 4 other buttons you can program to do whatever.

I don't think you could go wrong either way. I just ordered the MX518, but that's because I like the shape of Logitech's mice.

I have an MX-510 and there's nothing better I think. Well of course there's the mx518 but I wouldn't probably use the buttons the on the fly dpi buttons so who cares hehe.

I think that the Logitech MX900 would be better for a notebook. It connects to your notebook using BlueTooth. Kind of expensive, but its worth it. If you don't have bluetooth in your notebook then the MX518 would be good I guess. If you can live with wires then go for it. I prefer to have 0 wires

I’m waiting for my Razer Diamondback plasma to be delivered, so I’ll have a better idea later today. I also have the MX900 and it’s a great mouse too.

mx510 works great

mx900 sucks for gaming.

He said between the mx518 or razor not mx510 or mx900.

I HATE mouse wires. After going wireless on both my desktop and laptop there is no way I could ever go back.

um...no the mx900 is not bad for gaming, its just as good as an MX510, but with no wires. The MX518 is not that much better in terms of precision.

I like my 518. I do miss the right side buttons of my old 310 though.
Oh, and I HAVE to have corded mice. Wireless mice I dont trust. no rational reason, just preference.

You’re so helpful, thanks. I agree with icy1007, the MX900 is not that bad for gaming.

How come no ones mentioned the MX1000....sure its not bluetooth and the usb adapter is pretty big but its still a great wireless mouse (ahhh....laser). Although I'd definately not choose the MX1000 as any notebooks number 1 mouse....the 518 is the king now with the diamondback in close second. It may just be a battle of names that makes Logitech seem better but hey thats how every product goes (i.e. Windows)

If he need a mouse specifically for gaming, he should go with either the MX518 or the Diamondback. Both these mice have 1600dpi resolution.

Wireless mice are not responsive enough to be used for serious gaming, with the exception of the MX1000 and its fast RF connection. However, the MX1000 is still not on the same level as the MX518 and the Diamondback, because it does not have a 1600dpi sensor.

I guess you don't know that there is no difference besides the on the fly buttons between a mx510 and a mx518?

I thought the MX1000 was 1600dpi, I know it's laser; but I couldn't find the exact dpi rating for it.

I'm leaning against the mx1000 as a notebook mouse because it doesn't have an on/off switch, which means traveling with it will drain the battery. I'm leaning towards the mx518, as corded doesn't bother me too much on a notebook. I do wish it had the tilt weel though.

I have the Logitech MX518. As others have said, it works very well with games.

think that the Logitech MX900 would be better for a notebook. It connects to your notebook using BlueTooth. Kind of expensive, but its worth <<<<

What if you don't have bluetooth built in? Do you think the hub would be a hassle with the notebook? I have a Linksys USB antenae (nice and small.) Wonder if that would suffice in lieu of the hub? Do you have to use the hub?

Just curious.

Do you think the mouse is a little big for a notebook?

Saw a nice MS wireless that was small, but only had 2 buttons. Nice size, though.

I do not worry about the size of the mouse with my notebook. I use it only as a desktop replacement. I have not needed to travel with it yet. For those who travel a smaller mouse would be useful.

If you have a bluetooth adapter or a USB bluetooth adapter you do not need to use the USB hub for the MX900, but then if you run out of batteries you're toast.

Presonally, I don't think size is that big of a deal when you're talking mice. Maybe that's because I'm buying a Dell 9300, so a big mouse is still relatively small. It depends on your use, if you've got a desktop replacement and don't travel or anything with it much, I'd go with a nice, bigger mouse. If you're gonna be using it in airports a ton and moving it around all the time I'd go with something smaller. Personally, if I'm in an airport or something, I'll use the touchpad anyway, as I'm not gonna be gaming without a power source anyway, and the touchpad isn't bad for word/internet type stuff.

If you're talking the most portable mouse with best features, I'm likin the Anycom Bluetooth Mouse as it has a small bluetooth usb chip if you don't have one built in, it is cordless optical, and if you run out of battery life you can plug in the cord and still use it while charging as you would a corded mouse. Pretty nice IMHO, but I need something better for gaming.
