okay here is the situation.....im in a dilemma as to what lappy to choose. im a university student, and i want a good solid system that will serve me well for the next ~3years. i dont need extreme gaming power but i do occasionally pop in a game or two. and i would like to play BF2 when it hits and a couple of games that are on the horizons. i have a budget of about $3400 canadian plus some for accessories like an external soundcard and a good mouse and carry case.
so my options as i see them:
Dell 9300 (www.dell.ca)
Pros:
-6800go
-17inch glossy screen
-not too expensive for alot of performance
-3 year warranty with onsite and accidental damage protection
-decent battery life but nothign unbelieveable
Cons:
-screens are notorious for issues
-not so sure about dells build quality
-not really high resolution screen
LG LW70
Pros:
-lighter
-glossy high resolution 17inch screen
-very solid build from what i have seen
-good battery life
Cons
-new manufacturer north america so unsure of warranty and its only 1 year
-x600 128mb graphics card (not sure if its enough)
Sager 3880 (just go to pctorque)
Pros:
-powerful and light enough i think
-nvidia 6600go graphics (not sure if its enough)
-almost fully loaded for my budget
-really good battery life
Cons:
-not sure of sager warranty in canada,
-not sure about pctorque extended warranty in canada
Toshiba Tecra S2 (www.toshiba.ca)
Pros:
-reasonably powerful for price
-solid and stable
-good warranty free 3 year accidental damage protection offered at the moment
-good battery life
Cons:
-lower resolution screen
-128mb x600 (again is it enough)
-no ddr2 support
Alienware Area 51m 5500 (used but in great shape, recently discontinued)
Pros:
-good laptop with good record
-solid and great style
-generally nice and i could get a good price with enough to buy tons of options
Cons:
-lack of support from Alienware
-ati 9700 graphics not sure if it will be enough, but an upgrade could be coming
-desktop processor
-lower battery life
so what should i do....i love the custom look of the alienware and i have always wanted one, but likewise i can see the benifits of the other machines i listed. i just found the sager tonight and it is really looking like it may be a great choice for me, but they all have their benifits. so since i am at kinda a deadlock lets hear what you have to say here people.....can you please help me solve my dilemma.
