I ordered on 17th May on the Alienware UK website, I'm taking finance, V12 authorised the finance on 23rd May. The order is currently in Phase 2. Note I made the change to the order from NVIDIA to ATI video card on Wed 25th May.

Any idea when the order is likely?

A difference in price between US and UK AW sites for the same piece of hardware (US being cheaper) - of £792 ($1443 US) seems quite a lot to me! Any explanations?

Is there anything I can do, e.g. PM my order number to anyone to help this order along at all? I'm travelling soon and would like to get my baby beforehand!!!

Should I upgrade to more than 1 years' UK warranty?

Thanks for any help / advice,

Nick DS

AlienInspection: AlienInspection - Exclusive Integration and Inspection - £50 Value - FREE!

What the hell does this mean? Arent they supposed to INSPECT and PROPELY integrate the system anyway? Is AW going little nutty in UK? Hmmmm.......

Other than that weird thing. Machine looks awesome mate. Welcome to the club. And have fun with Phases.

As far as price difference goes:

After living in the UK for about 3 years now, and frankly prefering it to USA - No offence USA heh, I realised that although the £1 is worth more in than $1 - when it comes to UK internal values it is the same. As you know if you want to buy a bottle of poweraide it costs 1.5 quid - now same bottle will cost 1.5 dollars in the USA. or..... about 80p. Also, VAT - in USA, unless you live in Florida where AW is based - you do not pay taxes/vat on purchases over the internet. I think congress has extended the "no tax" rule for most internet purchase for a while still. So there is your explanation. All the sicko, bastard capitalist companies take advantage of brits. Because the value is held by internal standarts and not the exchange rate.

Thats why I bought my 51M in USA it came to about.... £1,650 for similar specks after rebates or £2,038 before any rebates.

Thanks for the reply.

So are you getting your US machine shipped to a UK address? Do you have any import duties to worry about?

It sounds like you are from the US so I would guess you would get it sent somewhere and pick it up yourself!!

Hope all goes well,

Nick DS.

No, as I said, I live in USA and UK. I have 2 places of official residence. I have Credit Cards, Bank Accounts in USA as well as UK. So I am having it shipped to USA address because I paid with the US credit card. I guess thats the only advantage I got in terms of not paying vat and all.

Still stuck in Phase 2 ;p

Ordered : 17th May
V12 confirmed: 23rd May
Phase 2 :27th May

Not been told anything is on backorder, should I phone them? Should I PM someone?

Thanks for any advice

Nick.

Have you phoned them to confirm the order? If so... Its going to be ok. If not, definatley call them to confirm that you are who you say you are and spending all this money.

After that you should be fine - mine shows Phase 12 and she has shipped. So, its cool.

Now Phase 3!

Woo hooo, moved to Phase 3:

Ordered : 17th May 2005
V12 finance confirmed : 23rd May 2005
Changed to ATI Graphics: 25th May 2005
Phase 2 : 27th May 2005
Changed to Raid 0 : 6th June 2005
Phase 3 : 7th June 2005

They took the deposit from my Visa on 31st May.

Yesterday I changed the spec. to Raid 0, as it's only just gone into configuration checking I'm hoping this won't delay the order

Fingers crossed!

This is not the problem if AW had said from the get go that my order would ship on this day or that. But after they received my money (100% paid) I get an email two days later stating that there is a backorder. To top it off AW said expected delivery date of the backorder part is "undetermined"

I’M NOT WAITING I’M BEING HELD HOSTAGE!

If I cancel now I won’t receive my money back till sometime next week by then the part maybe in.

I’M NOT WAITING I’M BEING HELD HOSTAGE!

NO WAIT I’VE BEEN ABDUCTED, THERE PROBING ME, YES FROM BEHIND!

lmao, well the wait is definitely worth it...yes the phases will drive anyone nuts and test the limits of their patience

as far as the probing...well...it's the sacrifices we make for the newest technology yes we're the test rats j/k

Well good luck with the wait, I also ordered fron the UK a few months back, the US one may have cost more because they have different spec's to ours. Such as the graphics cards, we have '6800 go' they get the '6800 Ultra' Which sucks but meh :P Least we get 24hour Delivery with DHL XD

I may give them a ring today to see if it's really Phase 5 or maybe a bit further, I wanted it by this Thursday as I'm away until the following Thursday, but I don't think it's likely....

Well finally today, after much deliberation, I cancelled my order.

I've ordered a Dell XPS2 instead.

A month later, I'm still in Phase 5, and the reviews of the M class processors are excellent, plus the XPS2 has an 6800 Ultra card, which is not available on AW (on UK site), plus I save around £700 ($1400), it's lighter, less heat problems, it's smaller, and the screen has a higher resolution.

Funny but after I cancelled it AW phoned me, the first time I've received a call from them a month after ordering. They said they could ship my laptop tonight if I continued with the order! When I phoned earlier today they still said it was in Phase 5. I had already ordered the XPS2 (and 2GB RAM from SMC) by that time, too late sorry AW.

I'm sure I would have been happy with the AW, but things change in a month, they need to get a bit quicker!

Wow mate that's really poor.

To be honest, just having to cancel is bad enough...but then they tell you they could send it that day........hmmm that's just bullsh!t which you can do without.

Frankly I don't blame you mate...I'm been waiting 5 weeks and they still haven't started building it yet.I don't even care about the lack of communication, what's to communicate?....that they still haven't done anything and don't know when they will.
I simply expect my computer in a reasonable time frame and I think by anyones standards a month is ample.Like yourself;the more this continues, the more I wonder whether I really need an"Alienwhere?"anyway. The XPS is certainly much cheaper for a very similar spec and I've never had any issues with my dell Inspiron 8200 laptop.
I wonder how much this company loses pre annum to cancelled orders.
Think I'll ring CS and see if I can get them to commit to ANYTHING.

One increasingly disheartened european customer.................
I reckon it'd be faster to wait for the second coming and I'm an atheist........I hate moaning but needs must.

Seems a shame as they obviously have a lot of committed customers, and I'm sure some committed employees, there's just something missing atm,
