OKay, i have a HP zt1290, got it form teh original owner, everything worked fine. then it started to hang on start up. would freeze once or twice on startup, have to force shutdown,a dn restart. then it would just shut off as woon as i went to start it. i would push the power button, and it would start for about 1/2 second and then shut down. it will do this anywhere form 4-20 times. befor eit will start right. now, whjen all this started to happed, the cmos battery was starting to go dead. could this all be fromt eh battery being deda? also, once in awhile it will showe the start procedure screen, and the me test pases, but it seems to have failure in the mouse pad initialization . I know that seems like a lot of info, but im trying to be as through as i can. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you .

Sounds like it could be a bad memory module. Or it could be installed incorrectly. Check both slots to be sure, try using only one at a time and see what happens. Also Are you running only on battery power or ac power? If on battery try using only ac power. But it realy sounds like memory. A remote possibility could be the hard drive.

could be heat related. Are the fans tuning on?

It could also be a bad power supply and the lappy is turning off becuase the power is fluctuating to greatly under the load of the laptop.
