T30... Is it worth it?

Does anyone have any thoughts on the T30 series line? I am considering picking one up.

Depends on the price. Only real known problem is/was a design prob with the sodimm attachment assembly which allows mem cards pop loose. IBM will fix at no cost with some sort of retrofit, but not sure if it has to be under warranty.

Typical TP quality other than this one issue, which simply means it could very well last 10 years, but just does not look too modern.

I personally like the tank-look that the previous-style IBMs had

Had to use a T30 while I was waiting for my T42 and I was somewhat disappointed. The P4M CPU is slow, hot, and eats batteries for breakfast. Best I got was close to an hour and a half doing nothing much more than Word, Outlook, and Firefox.

That all said, I actually prefer the older PIII based units that are essentially the predecessors to the Pentium M.

i have an older P3 (1.133ghz) T23 model. Nice build, gets about 2.5, pushing 3 hours off a full charge. There is a little flex (ok...a lot flex compared to my other laptops...uniwill 258kao and asus z71v) on the left side of the keyboard

I decided to pull the trigger on a deal that had the following for $770 delivered:

IBM ThinkPad T30 (2366-xxd)
P4-M 1.8 GHz
14.1" XGA - 16MB Video
Modem/Network Combo - WiFi
1024 MB Ram (1 GB)
CD-RW/DVD Drive
60GB HD h

PLUS EXTRAS

USB 2.0 PCMCIA card – 4 ports
Floppy Disk Drive with containter
Port Replicator
MS Windows XP Pro w/CD and key
Office 2003 w/CD and key
2 Batteries
2 AC Adapters

The laptop seems to be in great condition and the deal looked too good to pass up.

My only concern was a small hairline crack about 1/2" long on the bottom left corner of the keyboard bezel. It does not affect performance whatsoever. I did a search and it looks like finding a replacement bezel will be a little tough, not much out there for this model...

Is this a decent deal?

Yes, I would say that's a good deal. As for the bezel crack, just use superglue until you can find a replacement.

why don't you go to overstock.com

they have one on sale for $659.. not too bad for a IBM P4-M notebook. and you can get a 10% off from ecoupons.com

T30

Just that is kind of heavy and bulky.
