Coax Cable

I just bought the logitech z680's and am having trouble setting them up. I bought a monster cable coax rca to coax rca. The problem is it plugs into the input for the speakers fine but on the other end at the 5680 I can't plug them in all the way because of an gold outer shell around the rca connector, I broke that off mostly, but it still doesn't plug in all the way and am not getting any signal. All the cables at best buy had this outer shell so that it cannot plug into the 5680 spdif port. Any suggestions on what to do?

was there an adapter that came with ur laptop. i know on my 8890 if u want to use coax, u have to plug in a y-adapter. as configured right now..its a mini-jack(3.5mm). look around and see if u have some kind of adapter to plug in there. also i believe u ruined ur rca plug by breaking of the gold outer shell.

Y adapter huh? I don't think my 5680 came with one, I'll have to check best buy, thanks.

i think its a special one from sager...its a connector so u can put in a mic and spdif coax at the same time. i'm not sure if u can get it anywhere else.

you broke the cable!?!? MAN thats expensive stuff there
Why'd ya do that without asking around first...

anyway - go to Radioshack or Walmart (god forbid) and look for adapters. You know what the one that goes into the 5660 should look like (SPDIF - its optical with a transparent tip and a cap at the end - and you want the other end to be RCA or COAX).

That "SHELL" carries a signal, it is there for a reason....

If you broke it off because it wouldn't fit, you weren't plugging it into the right spot

wait the output on the 5680 is optical? It doesn't look like an optical will fit looks like 1/8", and at best buy they don't have optical to coax, they said they don't make them. I'm using 1/8" to rca to coax to z680's. Can I use optical?

take your 5680 to radioshack and see if you can find a toslink cable that fits its SPDIF port. Take your Z-680 control pod along with you as well...make sure everything connects like it should and only then buy your stuff...get all the adapters you need to make the connection...

GET CONNECTED

The z680 can use the 5680 spdif output (port next to headphones port with the red blinking light)
