Here is a benchmark for my new z70v:

3Dmark05 = 1117

The results were the same for the newest Asus video drivers and the newest Omega drivers. I have not tried to overclock.

Here are my specs:
2.0 GHz Pentium M
1 GB DDR2 ram (one stick)
Hitachi 60GB 7200 RPM

How does this compare with everyone else???

How much was the total?
@ Artek

Are you asking me how much the total was?? Are you talking about price?? I bought my z70v from ISTNC for about $1650. It came with everything except the RAM. I bought that at Newegg and put it in myself ($120). So far I am VERY happy with ISTNC. My hard drive needs to be replaced, so we will see how well they handle that. At the moment, they are sold out of replacement Hitachi 7200rpm 60gb drives.

Wolf, we received more 60gb drives in yesterday, so hook up with me in email and we'll get it swapped out for you
With regards to the LCD quality, it runs circles around the Z71V, and NO sparkle issues. Simply put, the Z70V is a much better unit ( although it lacks video capabilities and no SATA support )

Of course, battery depends highly upon usage (drive access, CPU usage, etc) and power options settings (brightness, speedstepping, etc). If I have the time, I'll do an office-usage test tomorrie. And report back.

I too would be very interested to hear about battery life. I'd really appreciate some 'general usage' (wifi enabled) measurements. Does anyone own the optical bay battery? We could probably extrapolate the results from the performance of the primary battery (at least, if we knew how many mAh the secondary battery was, relative to the first).

Regards,

Jaani.

Just got mine yesterday, been running a bunch of installs through wireless. Battery life was a little over 4 hours, maybe 4.5. But of course it's still a new battery, lets see how it goes in a few weeks. I had the screen a little dim (maybe 1 notch below the mid point). I dont really like it too bright when im in the office (only when I play a game or movie).

ew, that's a pretty low 3dmark05 score

Would any of you using the Hitachi 7K60 hardisk in the Z70V report the HDD temperature using MobileMeter under the following situations? I would like know whether the heat problem is due to the design of my Ferrari 3200 or is related to the 7K60 hardisk.

1. Normal use - such as word processing, web surfing
2. Watching a AVI movie from the hardisk
3. Right after long time gaming, for example 1 hour

Thanks very much for your help!

I'm trying to choose between the Z70V & an Acer TM8103WLMi or maybe a Sony FS500. I live in Uganda, & it needs to be fairly reliable & tough, meaning I can't be running it back to the shop to get it fixed. I want to use it for video editing on-the-go, so would get an external hard drive, plus I'd get an extra battery.

It seems like the Asus is more solid. Do you guys know about getting Linux pre-installed? I have been looking at rawpowerpc. Are they reliable? Anyone got any experience? thanks!

what're u looking to do on ur laptop, the z70v and the acer are pretty different.

Greetings. I was wondering how u guys manage to get 4 hours out of the battery.
1. Is that 4 hours of surfing web/typing emails/chatting? Or 4 hours of just letting your computer sit there and idle?
2. Do u guys use/install Intel SpeedStep for your Z70V?

I just received my Z70V recently, and managed only 2 hours 45mins of surfing web/typing emails/chatting on Email/Office power setting (local LAN - no Wifi, no USB devices attached). I don't seem to have Intel SpeedStep. Things I have installed are drivers and utilities from the Asus CD, WinXP SP2, ICQ, MSN, and Windows East Asian language support.

What do u think, guys?

I dont have my screen too bright, I used the Email/Office setting and sometimes the battery saver setting too. I dont know was just able to get 4hrs from it. I recall just surfing a little here and there (I think that night I was on this forum- the sites not that bright where it sucks up your battery) and chatting on Yahoo. I was watching tv while I was on it. As for the battery life nowadays, I can watch movies, surf the web, and chat for anywhere from 3-4 hrs before I plug it in. I know this because I do this every Saturday- have to sit around at my girlfriends workplace from 7am-12noon. I plug in about 10:30.

look around the forums for some battery tips...and u could always buy the modular bay battery too. there are other programs tho that should allow u to tweak different settings depending on what sort of things u're doing. u could also undervolt if u want.
