Just a little update, folks. Earlier I complained about DPI adjustments not remaining after reboot. I updated BIOS and ATI drivers from Asus' website (which now as the Z70V listed on its own, aside from M6000 series in the downloads section), and everything is peachy.

how would you compare the LCD with say, a sony FS series?

i have a fs640 right now, but may go with the z70 instead. i like my sony (upgraded to a 100GB 5400 drive and put 1.5 GB ram in it clean install as well) but may be able to get more umph out of the z70.

my biggest complaint on then sony is crappy res 1280x800. but im very satisfied with the quality of the LCD unlike other HP and dell models i have owned which looked really washed out.

also, does anyone know if you can overclock the 533FSB M's in these? i know ppl have been using the 400FSB and flipping the switch over to 533FSB with good results, but ISTINC is only selling it with 533FSB now it appears.

Sony FS series has an X-Bright display, and the Z70V does not use an X-Bright equivalent display. A friend of mine has a brand new Sony FS series, and actually we set our laptops next to each other and we were in awe. Both are beautiful machines. Honestly, the Sony had a brighter display when I put solid white on both of them. It's also has significant glare (which is marketed as a positive feature, right?). If you put the computers together, you will probably say the Sony has a better screen. However, that doesn't make the Z70V display bad. It's actually quite good. As I mentioned in my review, it's brighter and just as sharp than the HP ZV5000 series display I had. 'Hope that helps somewhat.

thanks for the quick reply.

the xbrite coating is fine unless you are in a sunny place/outdoors, then it stinks.

my sony 23in LCD for my desktop doesnt have the reflective coating, just normal and its fine.

as long as the color on the z70 isnt washed out...and the best way i cna think to explain it is look at some dell notebooks, many of them are very washed out looking. i have 15 latitudes at work and they are just plain bad (fine for the office folk who use em for email/internet) and my old HP 2150 (or something like that; P4 2.4G) had a really awful washed otu look to it as well.

you havent done any overclocking on yours though have you (processor)?

No, sorry, no overclocking here. Haven't needed to, not a gamer (well, N64 emulator w/ controller adapter is pretty sweet, but thats it for me!).
