Hello, im looking in to buying a notebook for traveling with. Ill be playing some games on it and surfing the net. Im looking for either a 14" or 15". Also I it to be sort of light and thin. Could you give me some suggestions on my pick? The most I am willing to pay is $2700.
Thank you!

wow at 2700 but ... what do you mean by gaming... name a few... are you like hardcore or like minesweeper and shit

Yeah with a budget of 2700 you are gonna have a big variety to choose from. likek Mooosah said, it all really depends on the types of games you plan on playing. The Toshiba Tecra M3 may not be a bad choice. Or you could try an Asus W3v. Also, if you wanted something with a better gfx card, you could check out the ACer Ferrari 4000. The Asus and Toshiba are both below 5.5lbs and the ACer is below 6.5

Yeah, I'm going to ask the same question. I'm debating between 700m and 9300. Actually, I want samething that is lighter than my current D500(It's just 5.1lb, however, to curry it to school everyday, I would say noooo..), and I also need to play counter-strike cs:source, so I don't know how to proceed, 9300 is quite cheap, but it's a lot heavier than the D500, while 700m is impressively small but would not get along well with cs:source. I did research on only Dell and found no machine that passes these requirements...... What about other brands ?

romerun, your joking right? It will be very difficult to find something below 5lbs that can play counter strike(well). YOu could probably look into the sony s series which carries a 6200 go. You could also just wait for the next generation of 700ms and see if it has a dedicated graphics card.

with that kind of budget, you might want to check out the Samsung X50 (you need to improt it from AU, HK, SG, Korea, etc...)

For chronik, J W was right on with his post, and I would stongly suggest the W3v, a good place to start would be to email Justin at www.proportable.com

For romerun, it looks like you might want something smaller, so I'd suggest the Sony S360. It's a 13" notebook with a 64mb 9700, so it can handle CS pretty well...for an excellent review of it go here: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=66166

Wow, VGN-S360 is very interesting, could you suggest which site is the best to look for sony laptops ?

The acer ferrari 4005 coming out soon would be a nice choice.
i say the tecra m3 would not be a bad choice, but also the sony is good and the newest generations of integrated graphics are supposaidly capable of it, just wont be hitting max res any time soon...

Well, if you want a good 'gaming' laptop that doesn't weigh a ton you have something like the Asus Z71v or the Acer Travelmate 8104. A lot of the laptops listed above don't even have graphics at x700 or 6600 level, which are about twice as fast as things like the x600, 9700, etc. Of course, neither is -that- light...if you want light, I guess they have you covered.

I agree with J_W and Fidget, the tecra M3. It's just under 5lbs, NVIDIA 6600 w/128mb dedicated, it has wireless and optional bluetooth. You could easily get it all tricked out within your budget. The 14" screen will be good if you use in on aiplanes while traveling, and it has a modular optical drive (as the asus and several others do) that can be swapped for a second battery while on those flights.

[edit] btw, there's a link by somebody that plays CS:S on his m3 and says it's great: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=85985

So whats better the new s480 and s380 with nVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 6200 128MB TurboCache or the S360 with the 64mb dedicated?
Also whats the diffrence between s360 and 360p?
Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it!

Well i'm probably going for the S360. Whats the place to get it? eBay has them for about $1700 in average. Is that a good price or can I get it cheaper somewhere?
