Arrived via UPS at 6:20 pm!

Beautiful laptop! Solid construction. The keyboard is great.

TruLife screen is gorgeous. Not very much light leakage at all...in fact I would say none. I don't know which screen I have....sorry guys....I will check tonite. I don't see any sparkles either.

It's a very quiet laptop. I heard practically nothing while working on it.

I had it in my lap for a while too and it didn't get hot, nor was it too heavy.

I removed a bunch of stuff...AOL, NetZero, Norton. I loaded Avast....thanks to this board for pointing it out to me.

Question: How much of the startup processes can I disable?

Dislcaimer: I am a driver newbie....
I got the free 3DMark05 and ran it. I got 3078 with the stock Nvidia driver. As suggested, I downloaded 76.50 from laptopvideo2go.com, along with the 30.71 inf file. Once extracted, I ran the setup.exe in the folder to load the driver. Reran 3DMark05 and got only 2650. Reverted back to the old driver and got 2980. Any suggestions? I am gonna try to Omega driver tonite.

The first thing to do when you get a new laptop is to format get rid of all the junk dell stick on it then install ya drivers run 3dmark again then see what you get.

I ordered it last Tuesday, the 24th.

I'm not experienced enough in the Windows world to reinstall. Besides, this is basically a fresh install. By removing what I don't want, I should be able to achieve the same result.

Anyone know what processes I can safely turn off?? I am talking about in the Process window of the Task Manager.

You're a Programmer for ORACLE and you don't know how to reformat a hard drive?

God help us all.

Grats on the new rig. Thats odd that you used the "reccommended" drivers and got the lower 3dmark. Never seen that. I dont run that anymore so I have no idea why that would be.....As far as your "reinstall", Although I am one to say that a re-format is not critical, the Add/Remove would be sufficient as long as you used a Registry cleaner to finish the job. I guess if you are bored some time you should look into the procedure of a reformat. Its not hard at all and the only thing you need to have an idea of is how you want to partition your HD. Good Luck. I assume you are a software developer who works in language editing or something.(otherwise its odd your not familiar with reformatting) Thats the first time Ive seen someone jump into the 3dmark without having knowledge of how to re-format. Oh well, to each his own.

So you are saying everyone who runs 3DMark has done a re-install? I was curious as to how my system would perform. I'm sure one of these days I will learn the install process.

OK, please tell me Matthew how me designing databases, writing SQL scripts, and creating Oracle Forms translates into installing windows on a pc? I must have been absent the day "windows install" was covered by Oracle. Any real Oracle programmer works in a UNIX environment anyway.

I ran 3DMark05 and stuff, without actually completely reformatting, but just getting rid of the crap I didn't want. I use the latest Omega drivers, with the 6800 Go clocked at 370/750 or thereabouts. The score with my system (fairly similar aside from using the 730) was somewhere in the 3600s. (Can't remember the exact score)

here is a list of processes that will let you know if you need them running or not. Whenever I reformat I look here to check what need and what I don't:

black vipers winxp service guide

hey SWB for that 3dmark05 score is that overclocked or not? Are those the stock clock speeds that came with your go6800? btw nice score-beats my A64 desktop score

Icy1007 3dmark05 score

edit: you could try the official 71.89 drivers with the INF file from laptopvideo2go.com. you should use the INF for the perticular driver version you have, not one from a different version.

...if it can't be done with PL/SQL or SQLJ, he can't do it....

I guess I wasnt trying knock ya, its just when I was learning about 3dmark and O/Cing procedures, I just happened to get alot of feedback on reformatting. In other words, its not a pre-requisit to 3dmark scoring. Just an observance.

When installing new drivers be sure to delete the old ones completely first before installing the new ones. Lot of times people will just install over older drivers and this can muck up the performance of the newer drivers.

Funny thing about drivers. Sometimes the older versions perform better than newer ones. I seen this happen with video card drivers (Both ATI & nVidia). Sometimes you have to wait for a couple new generation drivers to come out before you see a real performance increase. Sometimes you see it on the very next one. Not sure why that happens.

Tracking Number Status Delivery Information

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Billing Information Received*
Shipped to: FORSYTH, IL, US
Service Type: GROUND DEL CONF

Other than this, what did you see on your tracking info? I don't have locations that the laptop has been to according to UPS's website like you normally see when you track a package.

Did people who saw this on their tracking info get their system the next day after viewing it?

I saw tracking results for about 3 days from location to location just varies on how quick ups is doing their updating

Mine came today and I am in looooove. It is so sleek and sexy. I thought that it would have been heavier but it proved lighter than my toshiba a65-s126 which is fifteen inches. I tried half life 2 and it looked beautiful. When I loaded my favourite game, Quake 2 (Yes QUAKE2!!! WHAT?!! WHAT?!!!) I was blown away by the richer detail that the geforce gives.

I have noticed however that there is a red dot on my screen around the size of a pin's point. I only saw it when i came to the dark background here in this fourm. I have since confirmed it with a completely black desktop. Anyway I am going back to quake. Cant wait for quake4. Quake3 sucks major.

I ordered my iXPS2 the 26th of March and expected delivery is now on Monday. The package is now in Denmark, neighbor country to Sweden where I live, so think I'll actually get it then. Sweet!
yeah i'm looking forward to trying out some older games on my i9300 just to see how good they can look with a 6800 and a WUXGA 17" screen.. mine shipped on thursday evening from Dell UK's HQ in Ireland (don't ask me why it's there ) and is now at a depot about 30 minutes away from me... there until monday

by the way love your avatar LasseMan.. I want a t-shirt with that on it hehe..

Thanks vicious77, I actually took it from a t-shirt . Trying old games on my new power rig would be sweet, my only concern would be that most old games don't support wide screen, so maybe they'll look a little weird. Oh well, the games on my list are WoW and upcoming Battlefield2 anyway.
